Peru. Cusco and The Sacred Valley

we stayed in Cusco a few days to start our acclimatisation.

As ever, there was a festival going on in Cusco.

This little girl lives near Silustani, not far from Puno, Lake Titicaca

Of course you shouldn't go to Peru and not visit Machu Picchu!!

My favourite tree. Not only does it look spectacular, this is the only place any gold was ever found in Machu Picchu.

Into Bolivia

After a week we moved down to Lake Titicaca and into Bolivia.

Our plan was to climb Pequeno Alpamayo and Huayna Potosi, both in the Cordillera Real. Due in some small part to bad weather, but mostly because I failed to acclimatise, we never summitted either peak.

Agave growing on Sun Island, Lake Titicaca.

Had I sacrificed a Llama or even just bought one of these dried foetus' then things may have been SO different!!

Moving on to Sajama National Park

As a bonus prize we spent a few days around Sajama.

These were the residents of a 'Chulpa' tomb at the side of the road. They have been there for between 500 to 2000 years, but no one really knows.

This beautiful little church is at Tomarapu, at the foot of Sajama, at 6,549 metres, the highest peak in Bolivia
