Thousand Acres of Heaven

Magenta Paintbrush with Sentinel Peak in the background, by a nameless lake.

Thousand Acre Meadow is located in the central Eastern Olympic Range of Olympic National Park. Bordered on the north by the Dosewallips River, the west by Sentinel Peak, the south by Silt Creek and on the east by Wellesley Peak, Thousand Acre Meadow is a remote patch of rolling beauty in sea of up jagged upheaval. A dozen lush and moss bordered streams flow from the ridges surrounding the meadow. The uppper meadow contains some spectacular pools and small nameless lakes. Only a few patched of Alaska Cedar and Sub-Alpine Fir dot the landscape. Views are incredible to the north and west at sunset. Hayden Pass blazes with fire, and Mt's Fromme and Claywood are brilliantly silhouetted against the molten sun.

Marmots, Black Bears and Elk roam the meadow's lush carpet of green, while eagles and merlins soar on the heights above. Hundreds of Wildflowers dot the landscape including Lupine, Magenta Paintbrush, American Bistort and Elephants Head, among others. Thousand Acre Meadow is full of life on a less rugged level.
