The Sierra Nevada contains the highest peak in the lower 48

The Sierra, already extensively covered on Summitpost, the "Range of Light" as coined by John Muir, is a formidable mountain range. The longest single range in the U.S. It extends 400 miles from the the northern gorges of Feather River Canyon south to the desert peaks that rise above Tehachapi Pass. The history of the Sierra Nevada is colored with many great adventures that are not tainted by the pristine beauty that still abounds throughout the range. Along with the Rockies of Colorado the Sierra Nevada reigns.

Getting There

From San Francisco take 580 east to 120 and go east into Yosemite Nat. Park, 170 miles. From Los Angeles take Hwy 395 north to Lone Pine, 200 miles. These approaches will get you into the heart of the range.

Red Tape

I offer some pics that represent some of it's better views.

WoodzyNice Pics

Voted 10/10

but since Bob Burd already has one up, might just want to make it an album instead.
