The Road to YellowstoneThe fifty-mile stretch of highway running from Cody, Wyoming to Yellowstone Park features some absolutely spectacular scenery, from abundant wildlife and river/waterfall views to rugged mountains and alien rock formations. This is one of the best roads in the state for viewing wildlife, as you can expect to see literally hundreds of elk, deer, and bighorn sheep every time you drive through here; foxes, bison, wolves, and bears are seen less frequently, but they are there.
The mountains in this area are part of the Absaroka Range in the Central Rockies, and much of this land lies within the Shoshone National Forest, which encompasses 2.4 million acres and was set aside in 1891 as the first national forest.
