Overview

Table Mountain is a remote peak in Sequoia National Park. It is part of the Great Western Divide which is dominated by the Kaweah Range. Table Mountain sits north of Midway Mountain and south of Thunder Mountain along the Divide.

It is an extremely remote mountain with few documented ascents despite being listed on the Sierra Club Sierra Peaks Section and Sierra Peaks Section Mountaineer's Peaks. Table Mountain is the 43rd highest peak in California and 9th highest peak in the Great Western Divide Range and along with other nearby peaks would be a ambitious goal for a multiple day trip in the the heart of the Sierra.

Its name originated in Clarence King's notes from 1865, and was used in maps as early as 1873. (Wikipedia)

Getting There

From June to October the area can be accessed by non-technical hiking. During winter and when there is heavy snow be prepared for an expedition style trip.

Drive on Highway 180 from Fresno for approximately 30 miles through Grant's Grove until reaching the Roads End Trailhead. Hike on Bubbs Creek trail for about 4 miles. Continue south up Sphinx Creek trail and over Avalanche Pass for another 12 miles. Hike another 10 miles up Cloud Canyon. Find your bearings. Midway mountain is 1.3 miles to the South West. Table Mountain is distinctive for it's table-like top and should be easy to identify.
