Remember your gaiters while glissading!

by cycle61 » Mon Jul 24, 2017 7:28 pm

Perfect conditions on the Muir snowfield yesterday for an awesome, nearly uninterrupted mile and a half glissade. Had my hardshell pants on, forgot gaiters due to summer conditions, and my pants quickly rode up to my knees. Never felt anything due to numb skin from the ice, it turns out that shit is pretty abrasive. Found this while changing layers at Pebble Creek...

I'd never heard of this happening before, it's certainly not my first glissade, but kind of unique in the length and consistency, and I just blithely let my legs drag along the snow the whole way, suspecting nothing.

Oh yea snow cuts you up, it is a bit of a no Brainer to never let bare skin rub on the snow. I bet you won't do that again.

Get some Metolius climbing hand Cream and it will repair that fast.

Try a little Liquid Bandage on there (after washing carefully with soap and water). Stings a little going on, but holds up pretty well (even stretches a little so you can still bend your knee). For Hood, I'd also put on a non-stick bandage pad and wrap it thoroughly with a stretch bandage , to protect the scab against rubbing (pants, socks, snow, etc) and to absorb the leaks when you inevitably bump into something accidentally.

Oh sorry. Liquid bandage would help really.
