Description

Putting out feelers for organizing an un-guided Denali (West Butt.) 2010 climb, and some training climbs leading up to. I'm also in my mid-20's, if that matters.

Ideally, I'd like to do a few training climbs on Mt. Washington (NH) in Jan/Feb, Mt. Shasta (Late March/Early April), and Rainier(Late April/Early May). Personal goals for these are to try out gear, get comfortable with climbing and camping partners, and practice/learn/brush-up on mountaineering skills.

I'm an East Coast-er but love being in the mountains and have experience on leading a rope team, crevasse rescue, expedition planning, glacial travel and have much of the necessary gear for a successful summit.

Looking for people with some mountaineering or climbing experience guided or un-guided, but not necessarily experts.

Not looking for people to do all of the climbs, but don't want to do them solo for safety - and its a little tough finding climbing partners in the DC area.

Cheers, and lets have some fun!

Andy

Hi Andy,

I am also interested in the West Buttress next year. I just got back from a successful guided trip on Denali via the West Buttress with RMI. My only limitation is that I would need to start later in the season. If you are interested, send me a pm or email (paulharrington1234@yahoo.com)

I was planning on climbing Denali in 2008, but opt'd for Aconcagua instead (training burnout and needed a quick fix).

I have summitted Aconcagua in Argentina, just completed the Annapurna ckt trek in Nepal, made it as high as Muir Camp on Rainier (attempted in April to try and simulate possible experiences on Denali), and missed the summit of Shasta by 1000 feet (shasta and rainier were both early season climbs).

please message me if you are still planning to do this climb.
(if anything I would totally be up for your NH Mt Washington climb in January.)

Hey Andy,

I have thought of doing Denali off and on for years but never had a partner to do it with. I haven't really been at altitude in a while but I have climbed the Breithorn, Matterhonr 5 years ago, Kilimanjaro via heim glacier 4 years ago, and Mt. Cook (linda glacier) 3 years ago. All unguided. Due to the lack of partners in my area I have just been doing moderate climbs around the eastern Sierra and RMNP the last few years. Would love to do some training climbs and the west rib looks just like my kind of climb. Let me know if you're still looking for teammates. Jbarronton@yahoo.com

Andy,

Im heading out to LAX on 26 september to give Whitney a shot. I have a week so other peaks in the area would be fun too. Since I wasnt sure if I would have a partner, I planned non-technical routes but if I could meet somone out there, I wouldnt be opposed to road tripping up to Shasta.

Hey Andy,

I'm in DC too. Currently planning a guided Mt. Washington summit climb for mid-January 2010. Would definitely be interested in an adventure or two. Late 20's here, live around the U Street area of DC, always up for climbing/hiking.

Hey there, I'm in wakefield, NH and do winter hikes in the white all the time. Looking to do several winter accents this year. I've done most of the 4k footers in NH and several in winter, shasta a few times and have crevasse rescue training. I'm planning on rainier in june 2010 and Denali summer of 2011. Let me know iff you'd like to get together for a few winter hikes and possibly plan something bigger. Greg (38)

I will be in NH between Christmas and New Years, and plan to at least do a day hike up the Presidentials. I'm interested in a multi-peak, multi-day trip through the presidentials in Late December, if interested. That's about as extreme as the weather gets in the lower 48, I think. I actually would be interested in your Denali trip, but right now I'm eying up some South American Peaks for February. I just can't wait much longer...

I'm also training for an un-guided Denali (West Butt.) but I am not sure with my career path if I can do a 2010 attempt. I've been climbing Colorado winter 14ers for 5 years. I'm thinking to attempt Harvard and Columbia between Dec. 27-Jan. 1. Please let me know if you're up for it - I've got all team equipment.
