I hope this becomes POTW for everyone who cares about Summit Post sees it.

Re: Photo of The Week!

So far, chances are very good that this will be tomorrow’s Photo of the Day, so that’s already a start...

Re: Photo of The Week!

I use to chuckle at posts about "the death of Summitpost", but now I can see this happening by the greed of the keepers of this site. I am thankful for beautiful images, great articles and seemingly endless summits and locations that posted by the great users of this site. I hope we are still here next thanksgivings, and still have screen space for users.

Ad blocker may help

Hi guys!

I was experiencing the same and then had enough. I just tried the first ad blocker which Google search offered to me. Installed it in a few seconds - and it helped. My screen is now clean as it was before. But perhaps I was just lucky and ads will come back.

Otherwise, till the end of 2017 a new visual appearance of SP is announced.

Best,
Vid

Re: Ad blocker may help

Vid, I'm sure with the right ad blocker you can at least partly defeat this, but we write pages for an audience. For example, I think because of my pages SP has become the go-to source for a pretty large community of peak-baggers in my city. If the page format doesn't work for THEM, it doesn't work. So I'm deliberately not running more than normal ad blocking.
Cheers,
Chris

Re: Ad blocker may help

Yes, I see your point and fully agree. It would be far better to stick to the original vision of Josh. In those first years of SP we were all willing to contribute some annual fee if SP stays independent of ads. At that time Josh's answer was that he'll always find those $1000 to pay for the server. But today perhaps everything is different...

Get rid of Ads

Yes, I agree with everyone.
This is too much

Me too, I agree...

I also find that the ads are taking way to far overhand. Sometimes the actual page or album seems almost secondary next to all these Google ads! Plus all the ads I also get from German and Austrian sites, like travel bureaus advertising for trips to Berchtesgaden or Südtirol or Switzerland, depending on what keywords they happen to find on my pages...

Re: Me too, I agree...

Yes, they are so clever, aren't they? On the Parofes memorial page, you will get all kinds of medical ads, right in the middle of the picture frames showing him in the hospital. Charming.

This is annoying!!!!

Hope we can find a solution soon. Ad blocker might help for my private devices but as I´m used to do some reading of SP sites during lunch break at work where my security administrator does not allow any changes of the internet set up .............. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Going away?

Supposedly this ad mess is going away in less than a month, but I guess we'll see.

Re: Going away?

Well, a month is a long time, and one month can grow to six when you're talking about waiting for a complete site redesign. Plus, Matt didn't even get what we were complaining about for a long time--he was just exasperated because he'd already TOLD us-- there are no MORE ads, just different placement. That worries me--like the ad experiment, the site redesign may likewise be occurring without any briefing to the designers about what matters on this site and without any appreciation for format issues. I hope big contributors like you and Bob Sihler can raise consciousness on these problems--the Europeans have already weighed in, but they may have less influence.

Re: Going away?

Yes, I think everyone hates the new ads. They make creating a page a lot more difficult as well.

I'm taking a wait and see approach. If it isn't better with the new roll out, I'm pretty sure I'm done contributing anything.
