Beginning of a great backpack trip!
My first time up Algonquin. One of the most beautiful Adirondack high peaks. I've been up in winter conditions, and most recently, in September of 2004.

My Favorite
Climbed first on May 26 1993, cold, rainy near the summit, ice, no views. Came back to Heart Lake via Avalanch Pass where the skies cleared and sun came out. Was still a great hike. I've since climbed it over 7 times. It's short and relatively easy and hell it has awesome views!

12 times from 1970-1975
3 times in full blown winter, one other time in an October snowstorm and whiteout. Backpacked over the top once. One day in July 1971, went over Wright, Algonquin, to Iroquois. There was no trail to Iroquois back then, and the trip was over and through extremely tough balsam.

ADK Loj
I finally made it! This one had been dogging me with previous attempts spoiled by bad weather or illness. It was a tough day for me, but beautitul with barely a breath of wind and the sun peeking in and out. Again, I have to thank Paul for his help with this. Also did Iroquois before heading back down to the Loj. : )

Awesome Mountain
Climbed Algonquin with my brother from the Loj. It was great to be up there on a Monday, since there were only a few others. Supposedly, there were 50 people on the mountain the day before. It was also very windy and icy on the mountain, but the views were spectacular.

Another Windy Peak
Did this before I new about crampons. Was super windy, and super cold. But we all made it to the top. HIghlight was when one partners goggles went flying, and another partner went dashing off to get them. Not the best move, but he got them back. Great mountain.

Great hike, for a fair amount we were enshrouded in mist, and the rock was very slippery, adding to a moderately physically challenging hike. The summit was spectacular, especially with the fog.

LOJ to summit
Combined with Wright and Iriquois. It wasn't too bad as someone had already kicked the trail in the snow to this point.

Algonquin PeakA marten calmly walked down the trail from behind us while we were taking a break. It's the only time I've ever seen one.
