Pleasant with great views
Climbed via detention basin. Easy hike, fun class II at the top. Nice to be able to point to a mountain from anywhere in Vegas and say, "I've been to the top of that". 360 views are absolutely worth the minimal effort to get up there.
Again on 3/26/16, this time as a run. 1:48 total time, including 15 minutes at the top.
Again on 12/10/16 as quick hike with my wife.
Again on 6/2/18 with some local trail runners as a "sunrise" hike (we missed the sunrise). Came up the 404 for the first time, it was fun.

Black Mountain Main Trail
I wanted to get out after spending time at CON EXPO and this seemed to be the best option with the rental car. The start of the route is a bit confusing but eventually I figured it out. Take the right hand asphalt path to a small electrical station building. Do not go left to cross the dam but continue across a concrete shallow embankment and then onto the path where a sign indicates the Black Mountain trail uphill to the right. Great views. Met an Englishman on the way down who planned on spending a couple of months in Las Vegas and was excited about all the hiking potential of the area.

Main Trail
My 1st summit of 2011. Quick morning outing before work.
Slightly above freezing at the start.
The trail to the top is in great shape and it is well signed from the backside of the water cachement area. A quick afternoon hike when I didn't have a lot of time.

Fun climb
This peak is practically in my backyard & am approaching my 100th summit. Enjoyable & fairly quick hike.
Best parking is behind the new Rec Center in Suncity - ~6 space parking lot on Shadow Canyon Drive, w/ add'l street parking available. I'd recommend using the designated path, but several of the other ridges make for a more challenging hike.

Underrated peak?
Some fun class 2 as you get closer to the summit. Reached the summit from the car in about 1hr 45mins. No wind and clear skies made for outstanding views in all directions. Clear views of Mt Charleston, the strip, and the Red Rock Canyon. At the summit you'll find a flag, and a cleared area with a box containing a climbers log and miscellaneous items.
I'd recommend a late fall/winter ascent of this peak to anyone!

several routes
I've been from the N, and by Nevada Mike's trail(s). The south summit (also called N McCullough) is more remote, wilder, and much harder to climb in a short winter day.

Nice view
There is so much building going on in the area it's hard to find a way to get close to the base of the mountain. We spent nearly an hour driving around the neighborhood before I got frusterated and decided to put it off until the following week. I figured I could contact some of my fellow hikers and perhaps one of them would be able to give me some directions. Which is exactly what happened.
So this week we again went after this mountain with current directions that would take us to the base of the mountain. I went with a couple friends of mine Sherry and Marc.
We arrived at the base of the mountain and started our hike at about 10:05 AM.
It was a beautiful day for a hike up this mountain. There wasn't a cloud in the sky and the temperatures were just right.
It took us about 25 minutes of wandering around to find the actual trailhead. Once we found it though it was easy to follow and takes you right to the summit. The actual hike from the trailhead took us about 2 1/2 hours.
The trail is pretty easy until you get to the last third of a mile or so. From there it get's pretty steep.
We arrived at the summit at 1:05 PM. As usual the views from the top we're spectacular. I love the views from mountain peaks.
Lots of other nice, easy desert peaks worth exploring in this area. Sutor Mountain, as well as a bunch of unnamed ones, are close and worthy.

Drove to Radio Antenna Towers and hiked down and up from the north
This was a fairly quick hike I did with my brother Harold. We saw a small herd of desert bighorns, saw what appeared to be a BLM helicopter chasing them, and I got startled by a rattlesnake on the way down. This was years before there was any development within at least 7 or 8 miles of the peak.
