"After the first glass, you see things as you wish they were. After the second, you see things as they are not. Finally, you see things as they really are, which is the most horrible thing in the world."

Via HogtownI climbed it via the Hogtown trail. It's a nice easy hike, even for a slow hiker, and has good views of the lake. Definitely worth the few hours it takes.

Great Lake ViewsI failed to summit on a trip in Feb, made it to just below the summit on the southern overlook from Pilot Knob. Hiked again in April from Hogtown and had a great clear views of the lake.

Pilot Knob RouteThis is a great hike to take really at any time, but... if you do not like the crowds may I suggest early spring and early in the morning being that this can be a hot spot for tourist in the Adirondacks. an easyer climb, steep at the end

Route Climbed: Pilot Knob Date Climbed: ManyIf in the ADK region you should climb Buck. It is a short hike that can be done in a few hours. The view from the summit is spectacular. You can see Lake George from south to north and on clear days all the way to the high peaks and into Vermont.
I particularly like it in the late summer when you can come across some wild blueberries near the top. They can make for a nice snack before coming down.
