Buck

Buck

Mule Deer of Mt. Charleston, Nevada spotted in December 2007. Mule Deer are active primarily in mornings, evenings and moonlit nights. I took this picture after sunset when it was getting dark already.

Re: Congratulations!

Thank you ;) This was the first male deer this year that actually paused for a moment and looked back at me.

Why

are they called Mule Deer? They don't look like mules.

Re: Why

They are called mule deer because of their large ears that resemble those of mules or burros. They can move them constantly and independently. Regards, Anya.

Great buck, Anya !

You even captured the little nubs that come up above the eyes. Do you have a spotting scope
on your camera. It's called digi-scoping!
Brillant photograph! Thank you, Anya!!!

Re: Great buck, Anya !

Thanks Larry. It was a nice moment. No scope, not even a powerful lense. I was lazy and only took a new little pocket Cannon (which already broke by the way!) that day and left my favorite camera at home.

Re: nice photo

Thank you and Happy and Healthy New Year filled with serenity and hope to you also Dai Tora!

PS: My dog is somewhat fussy about pet food. He eats it very seldom even though we get him only the organic one, but Santa has always been generous when it comes to toys which he loves ;)
Regards,
Anya.

Re: Just beautiful!

Thank you Maurice. Photographing animals is my most favorite thing besides spending time with them of course.
Happy hiking!

Re: Just beautiful!

Thanks, dear Anya...tomorrow I'll be going back to the Badgastein-Mallnitz area for one, possibly two days, with the hope of getting some cool shots of the Grossglockner and the Ankogel in "winter clothing"...we'll see...

All the best to you,

Eric (Maurice Ravel is a favorite composer of mine who lived from 1875 to 1937. :-))
