Used to climb here as a boy with my best friend. Don't remember why we changed to mostly climbing Wolf and Chimney rocks but it has been years since I have been back. Anyway, I need to go back soon

Cat Rock and Bobs Hill
Did this and Bobs Hill today with about 40 degree weather. I had my dog with me (this was her first hike) so I didn't really get to climb around on the rocks. I may visit again without the pooch so I can scramble around, but given that it is about an hour away from my house I may just keep climbing Old Rag and the Billy Goat Trail for the same drive.

A Local Favorite
I have hiked to Cat Rock dozens of times, in all seasons. I like the fun, short scramble at the summit.

Relaxing
Did a short hike up from Rt 77. Fun to scramble on the rocks and relax at the 'north' view. Visited a second time with a friend on April 22, 2011, as we took a little deviation from the Catoctin Trail.
Hiked up to Cat Rock yesterday. It was hot and hazy, but there were still some good views. From there, I hiked along the ridge until I reached the intersection of the Catoctin Mountain Trail before turning around.
Very nice short trail hike on a rainy day. The sramble up the pile of rocks was the best part. I also came across the meanest snake I've ever encountered along this trail. This snake was about five feet long and he lunged out about three feet from where he was coiled. He stod his ground and would not retreat. After about 5 minutes of watching him strike out repeatedely, I finally moved on. I'll try to add a pic of him when I find it.
