Still popular...
..despite the view now marred by fire damage. I can only sigh with envy looking at these SP photos from years past! *Great* hike to get acquainted with the Charleston area - the weather was absolutely perfect on this cloudless summer day.

Spring Mountain Tour
Final summit for the day! Part of a 30-mile trail run tour of the Spring Mountains. Also managed to Summit Charleston and Griffith and see some other notables (Rain-tree, Fletcher Canyon, Mary Jane Falls, etc. What a great mountain range. I really need to come back and explore some more!

Detour from Charleston
Unexpected summit while "on the way" to Charleston Peak. Got turned around and decided to summit since I was half way there when I realized it. Nice views, beautiful day. Cursing those extra miles and elevation on the way down from Charleston though. Ha!
Didn't even know this was here. Last trip was after going up the east arete of Charleston, over Lee, Charleston, down the canyon above Little Falls, and up the peak for extra exercise.

Nice easy hike
Have hiked this a few times, really nice little hike. If you start before the sun comes fully up you will probably spend most of the morning alone.

Cup of coffee hike
This is the hike I bring my not practicing hiking parents out to do. It's a nice pedestal in a round of mountains and easy going. After the hike, you're at the front door to Mt Charleston Lodge for lunch.

A short evening hike with DayHikerJr to get out of the summer heat. After the summit, we headed west on the trail to where it ends before going back down.

Still had a bit of energy after a long run in the morning so I made the short hike up to the top to enjoy the sunset.

Cathedral Rock
Three of us did this hike in the afternoon. Dark clouds hovered over the Spring Mountains all day. This kept the temperature cool. Good view especially of Echo Cliff and Mummy Mountain.

Right Time of Year
Anya's slide show and Harlan's "ever-present" beta acted as a
"combined stimulus" for helping to support my own belief how
awesome the Spring Mountains indeed are.
I wish folks would quit saying short & easy. (It's like they're
trying to get the hike over with, and I wanted it to last FOREVER. I'm not too completely thrilled at going back to work.)
Just hiked up to Cathedral Rock today. The aspens are yellow in the higher elevations, but still green in the valleys. Nice views of the Spring Mountains.
Climbed with my wife before learning where the trailhead for the South Loop was!!

trail
Nice morning in the mountains. Did Lee Peak (nice little peak, actually), Cockscomb Peak (fun scrambling on loose rock) and Cathedral Rock (uninteresting, though the views were decent).
15 miles/5000 ft gain - total RT time 5h44m.
By sheer coincidence, I bumped into 4 people I either knew or knew of on the trails. Small world.
Climbed with Theron. I lived in Vegas for 8 months living as an undercover Midget. I have seen it all...

Standard Route
Short and easy, yet pleasant hike in wintertime with a side trip to a frozen waterfall. In summertime, it is way too crowded up there. Some photos are here: Cathedral Rock hike
