Brought my dad along for this one. I took the day off work and we figured we would be alone since who else would be climbing on a Wednesday? Like 5 other people, at least that's what we saw in a nearby group. They got waylaid by the goats so we were off the summit before they got there and on to Mt Holly

Nice early season summit
Came as a day trip from Salt lake, never been to the tushars but they are really cool. The 2nd snow gate was closed for the main route so we had to hike a portion of the road, only a mile of so. Not too much snow at all, the grass was greening the flowers were blooming not a bad time to come and visit the Big Rock Candy Mountains and enjoy all of the Solitude that can be found here.

long road walk
Had to park near the first locked gate. The road was dry as a bone until I hit the camp area, then it was routinely buried under one to six foot high drifts. Some postholing, but sometimes the snow was hard as rock. The ridge was mostly clear, so time from the gate to the top was three hours and twenty minutes. My time on top was quite brief, as clouds of graupel enveloped me on the descent for over an hour just after I left. The summit mailbox is currently empty.

Delano Peak
My 14th Utah county high point. This is a quick and easy peak that gets you over 12,000'. I did this in conjunction with bagging Mine Camp Peak the next day.

Favorite Mountain Range
Started at the Skyline Trail. It's just 2.5 miles to the top of Delano from there, following the flags from the Tushar Ultra Trail race. Then I headed over to Mount Holly, where there were about 50 head of mountain goats. What a gorgeous day! There were huge thunderstorms over Circleville, and southern Utah.
Beautiful hike and easy approach from the West. Camped just below at a primitive campsite between Big John Flat and Poison Creek. Nobody so far has mentioned that you start from a major ATV trail that goes across the Tushars! Not a feeling of being in remote wilderness ... Luckily, our campsite was tucked in by Griffith Creek and the ATVs/trucks were not that noticeable. Nights and mornings were completely quiet. At least they stay on the road! From Delano we hiked over to Holly and then made a big loop back to the campsite partially via Skyline Trail and cross-country. Hiked with RDB. Saw two herds of mountain goats and several elk crossing the ridge on the approach to Holly.

Late Afternoon Meander
Surprisingly clear and direct trail to the summit from the west. Saw a young couple from St. George that just finished hiking it and watching mountain goats. I went to the summit and decided to keep going to Peak 12070. I couldn't go much further because my boots weren't broken in, yet. It was quite painful as the blisters began to form on the back of my heels. The weather was great except for the wind gusts. Amazing place with views of most of Utah!

Delano Loop
what a lovely peak. we hiked up following directions from the GPS recommendation. beautiful sunny day, with a brisk breeze. our descent took us north toward Belknap following occasional trails along ridges and slopes eventually connecting to the forest service road somewhat below the communications outpost. we followed this back past Mud Lake to our vehicle. About 10mi roundtrip. Road conditions were good- no 4wd needed, although there were a few wet spots from recently melted snow. only regret was we saw no mountain goats.

Finally!
Been on my list for almost 20 years. Went up from Big Johns Flat. Parked the car about a mile further and found a route up the ridge. Incredible!
I had walked from Poison Spider Creek (road was gated shut) and climbed Belknap. On the return I followed the road to the radio tower, then down to Mud lake where an old gated closed road appeared. I followed the old road for awhile then b-lined to the peak, which involved going around a few drainages. Took about 2 hours from Belknap FR 123 trailhead to summit of Delano, and maybe 45 mins to descent to my truck.

Delano
Went up looking for some summer snow to ski! Found a great 1000 foot line departing from just below the summit!
I had driven by this peak several times over the years on the way to more enticing mountains but this peak is too tall and prominent to ignore. A trip to Zion got me within striking distance, so I drove up and dashed up the trail. There is now a huge sign on top which is really sort of ridiculous. The hiking at least on a summer or fall day is trivial. As others have noted, some of the slightly lower peaks in the Tushars appear to be more interesting but I was short on time and had to get back to Zion. Certainly very nice views and some fall color.

DelanoI ran the Tushars half-marathon and Delano summit was the turn around point. A steep hike to the top. The Tushars are an under appreciated area.
