Long drive for little view
Highpoint #21 - I drove 4.5 hours from New Orleans to Shreveport in order to get this summit. The trailhead is indeed behind the church. The trail in is relatively well marked and is <0.5 miles. I would be mindful to pay attention on your way back. I did get misdirected as there are a multitude of trails that are unmarked and you can get lost. Even on this tiny jaunt, ensure you have a GPS or a compass just in the event you get turned around. I had to bushwack through some brush to get back to my car.
The cool highlight here is that a memorial for one of the original highpointers founders is here.
A short .75 mile hike up a mostly gravel path. It was a good time spent with my step-son the day before he starts his sophomore year of college down the road at LA Tech.

Quick little 1 1/2 day trip down to AR/LA to get a couple HPs to end the year and start the 4 day weekend. Didn't think they were going to be too spectacular after looking them up. This one was ok...nice short 3/4 mile hike up, sign at the summit but couldn't find the USGS marker...looks like it may have been covered up or stolen/destroyed. One decent view to one direction.

Shortest hike to the top yet
Really nice little hike with some decent views. Knocked this one off pretty quickly with the dog.

If you like spiders, then this is the trail for you! Nice little trail with okay views from the top, and some nice wild flowers on the way up!

After spending a couple days driving down the east coast and across the south, I got to hot Louisiana. This is a nice little 1.5 mile RT hike to a forested summit with hardly any views. But they take a lot of pride in the high point, and had some really cool markers. It’s nice of the people who own the land, to allow high pointers to access this spot. My dog was so done with the road trip at this point though, and the heat and humidity dang near killed him.

This was a longer walk than I anticipated. I got chased by giant bugs and my stroll turned into a sprint! Haha

Foggy morning to begin the hike up hill. Well marked trail, did wear bright safety vest just in case hunters were active.

Strolled up the main trail from the Church parking lot. On the return I took the trail to the false summit (not worth it). No one else around.

Quick and easy trail
Went in September and brought my dog. I didn't know if it was hunting season so she sported a nice orange vest!

Little over 2 mile round trip hike... not flat, but not super steep. When I got to the summit after leaving Mt. Zion Church parking lot, there was a lizard on the stump marking the summit, so I guess I was beat to it!

This is Louisiana. I flew into Memphis. I then proceeded on a 1,955-mile road trip through the southern states to bag the highpoints in MO, AR, LA, FL, AL, and MS. Here is LA, highpoint number 20/51 for me and ranked 48/51. Parked at the rear of Mt Zion Church. I was the only one there for miles and miles. The trailhead starts in the rear of the church parking lot next to the cemetery. As you start up the trail, you are strongly encouraged to wear orange or pink during hunting season and two orange vests were hanging on the gate. The trail is well marked and is an easy walk. It was steaming hot in the bayou, I wore a ball cap and sunglasses, but found no need for bug spray.
