Fire and Sun

Fire and Sun

A scene from Horse Creek Trail. The combination of smoke from the Norton Point Fire of 2011 and late-afternoon sun provided some dramatic lighting. What you see here, care for it or not, is what I got; there was no "post processing" to manipulate colors. Absaroka Range, WY-- August 2011

Re: nice

Thanks, Anita. I have a bunch of wild-looking shots from this day and will get around to making an album eventually.

Beautiful

Great colors! I didn't get close enough the following week on Cascade and Spar to get anything like this, but I was hoping you'd gotten some good images! I was right :)

Re: Beautiful

Thanks! Here's a collection of what I think are the best of them: https://picasaweb.google.com/115489025119774210953/NotBurwell.

I'll eventually get most of them up here in a TR or album with the fire as the theme.

Where there's smoke, there's fire ..

Naturally, if there had been a cat or dog in
this photo, it'd be a shoe-in for "Photo-of-the-Year."

Re: Where there's smoke, there's fire ..

How about I photoshop both in, with a mushroom? That would get me Photo of the Decade, I think.

Great light...

That is a really nice photo. Wonderful light, and the green of the tree makes really nice contrast with the orange of the sky...

Nice!

I'd wear my brown and Red Tsubo's trimmed in yellow to add contast to the tree and grass in the forefront.

Nice

That's a neat photo Bob. Wildfires aren't all bad from a photographer's perspective.

Thanks, and you're absolutely correct. From a distance, of course...

Agree...

with everyone else. Nice capture. Kinda in the right place, right time.
Did the fire concern you at all?

Re: Agree...

Thanks, Kiefer.

The fire was far enough away, as seen here, that I wasn't too concerned about the flames themselves, but as smoke settled into the valley around sunset, I started to worry about the lungs, as it was like being by a massive campfire. It lifted enough that night for me to stay out there in the car, windows up, and hike the next morning, but the inversion was coming back as I was leaving.
