Route Climbed: Bear Lake & Kawaneechee Date Climbed: August & Oct. 1997+++
Been up this mountain a few times actually. I used to have a yearly trip that involved hiking from Bear Lake to Kawaneechee visitor centre and through big meadows. Since Flattop mtn. is on the way, it's a nice side trip!
Route Climbed: a snow filled gulley southeast of the Ptarmingen Glacier Date Climbed: October 6, 2005
The wind was blowing, snow was falling, avalance danger that I avoided, but I cramponed my butt to the top with a cool 15 foot vertical ice wall - old snow that was ice, climb at the end at the top of the gully . Glad that it was the first big snowfall of the season. Good test of Winter mouuntaineering skills.
It also helped that two buck elk were at the top welcoming me to the continental divide.
Route Climbed: Bear Lake Date Climbed: Way too many times to count!
I have used this mountain so many times to summit other great peaks in the park, such as Hallets, Otis, Taylor, Powell, Notchtop, Knobtop, Gabletop, and Sprague Mountain. The hike from Bear Lake to Grand Lake over Flattop is also a good hike, but too much downhill for me.
Route Climbed: Divide traverse from Milner Pass Date Climbed: September 11, 2005
Crossed Flattop after Bighorn Flats on Continental Divide traverse from Milner Pass to Bear Lake. At this point (~4pm) storms chased us across Flattop and down to treeline.
Route Climbed: trail from bear lake Date Climbed: 8/8/05
My wife and I had a very pleasant hike to the summit. We had a snack on boulders overlooking Tindal glacier, and decided to pass on a scramble up to the summit of Hallet (maybe next year).
Route Climbed: Standard (Bear Lake TH) Date Climbed: July 29, 2002
Second time on Flattop on route to a second summit of Hallett. I made my first winter visit to RMNP this past April (2005) and would like to make Flattop my first winter ascent on my next visit.
Route Climbed: Tyndall Glacier Date Climbed: July 24, 2005
The early overcast that I worried about on the ascent burned off and revealed a sunny and calm summit. Ascended via the right side of Tyndall Glacier and descended on the standard trail. Great Day!

Route: Bear Lake THAn easy hike with jaw-dropping views of Hallets, Longs, and all of RMNP! Should have bagged Hallets, but I guess that gives me an excuse to go back!
