Second time here
Made a nice loop with the West Ridge Trail and the Long Trail to make around a 22 mile day. Camped at Woodford State Park nearby and had beautiful weather. Nobody else on the blue blazed side trail but many on the LT/AT. The fire tower has been rebuilt and offers stupendous views in all directions. There is even a geocache right at the summit, I would guess it is possibly the most remote geocache in Vermont in terms of distance from the nearest road. This was my second trip to the top. The first was during my AT thru-hike in 1998.

LT Sobo
You can access the old firetower and I recommend it. During sunset, a bright ball of a thunderstorm came from the horizon and then overhead. There are spots for camping nearby the firetower. Glastenbury is supposed to have ghosts and a sasquatch of its' own, but we heard nothing.

AT/LT Section Hike
Some of the best water we came across was on top of this mountain.

3 Day AT Hike
made it up and over Glastenbury while on a 3 day AT hike... walked from the beginning of the Wilderness Area to the summit in about the hardest rain i've ever been out in.. It was like a Monsoon!! stayed up on the summit in the shelter with about 12 other stranded thru hikers... disappointed with no views but seems like it would be incredible on a sunny day! by-passed the fire tower...

Long
A really nice view, and a lot of wind. But I'm still debating whether it was worth 23 miles of monotony. I read that Indians used to consider the top haunted, but I my own experience doesn't confirm that.

Appalachian Trail
Very wet and mussy trail, still quite a bit of snow near the summit. No alien sightings.

Along the LT
The first 'real' mountain along the Long Trail. Summited it on a hot and humid day, but there was a stiff breeze on top that made it a pleasurable experience.
Not sure I've ever seen so many blackflies in one spot. I could not possibly have stayed at Goddard so pushed on over the summit and down to Kid Gore that day. The only respite from the blood-sucking bugs was at the top of the tower, on which one of my friends later bedded down for the night.
A very nice and remote summit. You can see very little civilization around you since the peak is located in the middle of the GMNF. Stayed in the shelter near the top. Breeze keeps the blackflies down.

Long Trail SB
Day hike from (then) Arlington-West Wardsboro Road to extension of road past (then) Fay Fuller Camp, the only one of my 5 day hikes of Glastenbury to use only the then-current Long Trail

Long day on the long trail. Started around 8 AM and reached the summit aboout 2:30 PM, Crews were working on the tower and it was off limits. Odd to hear powersaws this far in to the woods. Had more Long Trails on the Long Trail. Views from top would have been nice, but it was still a nice hike through beautiful forest with an occasional scenic vista along the way. Returned under cover of darkness, with a cool view of the lights of Bennington from a powerline crossing. Back to my parents house for hamburgers to celebrate.
