Spring Break
Hike up from the visitor's center took about 3 hours. Beautiful region; great views from the trail and the summit. Somewhat windy so took a break below the summit in the sun. Very crowded (weekend) and more clouds/wind, even some rain, rolled in in the late afternoon on the way back to El Paso.

Cool Up, Hot Down
Started at dawn for a comfortable hike up, but the sun was beating down on us on the way back down.

The Return
Slept in the bed of my pickup and faced 50mph winds and sub-freezing temps that night, and awoke to a light freezing mist slowly soaking my bag. Cool and breezy conditions during the climb. Wonderful views and great companionship with my two friends who accompanied me. Sure wish I could have brought my pooch!

Switchback city
#1 11-15-2013 Solo. Weather down at the Pine Springs CG was breezy but nice with clear skies. Mother Nature had other plans for the top. It took me 1+50 to reach the top and by then everything was topsy turvy: 20-25 mph winds from the SW, viz 1/4 mile and brrrr. But the hike was overall a nice experience. #2 04-02-2021 With Yadahzoemtn. My climbing partner's first ascent of this peak. We started early (4am) and nearly got to watch the sunrise from the summit. Breezy but not windy. By starting early we had the mountain to ourselves on the way up but NOT on the way down! :) It was nice having potable water at the trailhead.

35th Reunion Climb
Awesome trip and a beautiful day hike. This was the 35th anniversary reunion of some of my college outing club buddies. Perfect weather and great views. Busy trail on the holiday weekend. Thanks to Linda, Fernando, Paul, Tom, and Debbie for a great weekend! Camped in the "RV" part under a pickup cap because the tent camping was completely full. That worked out just fine. #36 state highpoint for me!

Guad Peak
I've climbed this peak several time as well as the nearby El Capitan and I have enjoyed it every time I surprised a bunch of Barbary Sheep near the summit last time I climbed it.

Fairly strenuous hike
Who said Texas doesn't have high peaks? Guadalupe packs a punch, and rises high from the valley below. We had great weather, though I got sunburned. Oh well, success on State HP #24. Our 4th HP out of 6 on this trip!
Hot and dusty. Beautiful views on the hike up and down. Stayed at the backcountry campsite. HP#25

Top of Texas
A friend decided we would hike this peak on his birthday, and it was a fun time. Met two guys that were on a 13-state HP trip, several people from Midland/Odessa area, and the Lubbock-Cooper HS football team.

Nice day. Overcast on the way up that kept us cool. Then the sun came out for some nice pics at the top, but a somewhat warm hike down.

Strolled up from the Pine Springs Campground at 5:15 am. Had the trail and the peak to myself, arriving in just under 2 hours. The sky was clear in all directions. After 45 minutes on the peak, I wandered over to El Capitan and signed the log book (even though it didn't feel like the log book was at the high point). It took an hour to go from Guad Peak to El Cap.

Via El Capitan Trail
I scrambled off-trail near El Capitan up a ridge until an eventual meeting with the trail to Guadalupe Peak. Definitely a blast. These mountains are wonderful to hike, even in the wind.

Climbed with my aunt, uncle and cousin the first time at ten years old, and then again as an adult at 26. My first peak, appropriately in my home state. Started a life time love affair, just took a while to kick in.
