Summitted Gilbert and then Gunsight together. Ascended the ridge near dollar lake and descended the ridge to Gunsight pass to return to base camp at Henry's Fork Lake. Hit Powell the next day. Hiked in and out of base camp via big meadows. No rain the entire trip.
We did Kings Peak and South Kings yesterday. Got Gunsight Peak today. A little windy but all in all the weather was beautiful. Colors were nice on the backpack out the following day.
A straightforward hike coming up from the ridge near Dollar Lake. Escaped the summit as storm clouds rolled in, not sure if it really got the peak wet. Saw a decent size moose along the way

Henry's Fork Trailhead
First peak of a four peak day. 30.1 miles in a single day from the trailhead. Even saw a porcupine and moose. Extremely wet down below in the meadows.

Gunsight
11-7-2016 Beautiful fall hike. Not much snow.
3-14-2013 On skis via Joulious Creek. It took 3 separate trail breaking trips to get to 10400' and then 1 more to rebreak after a 14" snowfall, and then a 15 hour RT day to summit. Super, super, windy, otherwise the weather was great.
4-4-2011 On skis via Joulious Creek. The temperature was -3 at the start. Very windy and not much sun. Surrounding summits were mostly socked in. About 9:15 up and 5 hrs down. About 23.5 miles RT.
6-26-2008 Sarted at 5:20am from Henrys Fork. Made my way to Dollar Lake and then to the ridge leading to the summit. From the summit I continued on the ridge leading to the SE to hit point 12916. I started back along the ridge and then began a sloping traverse over to Gunsight Pass. I gave up on this after awhile and descended straight down into Painter Basin and had to climb back out to get to Gunsight Pass. Then took the trail back to the start. Found 2 out of 3 Geocaches along the way. The one at Gunsight Pass is a toughie. I spent a lot of time on it but came up empty. About 13 hours RT. I think the Dollar Lake route is much easier than the Gunsight Pass route.

With Gilbert Peak
Hiked up Gilbert Peak and Gunsight from Dollar Lake with RB. Amazing solitude considering the crowds at Dollar Lake.
Backpacked to Henry's Fork Lake, set up camp, then climbed Gunsight Peak from Dollar Lake. We made it back to our campsite with head lamps. We saw several ptarmigan at the saddle between Gilbert and Gunsight

Gunsight and East Gunsight Peak
8/16/2013 From Gilbert Peak we made our way over to Gunsight Peak and then onto East Gunsight. We descended back the way we came to the low spot between Gilbert and Gunsight, and on back to where we left our packs at Dollar Lake. Long fun day from the Trailhead up to Gilbert, Gunsight, East Gunsight, and back to camp.

Gunsight in a Day
Hiked Gunsight via Henrys Fork in about 7 hours. Had a kitty kat tell me I was a visitor just above Dollar Lake. Heard it both on the ascent and the descent
July 24 - 27, 2008 I did a solo trip to the Henry's Fork basin during which I climbed five peaks over 13,000 ft in 2 days. Gunsight Peak was the second of the five. In the log book on the peak I noticed ZeeJay's entry from June 26, 2008.
Hiked this one shortly after summiting Gilbert Peak. There is a lot more solitude on this peak then there was on Kings Peak the day before. My base camp was Sawmill Lake.

#1 09-16-05 W/ Ben Knorr After reaching the summit of Gilbert Peak from our Dollar Lake campsight in 2+15 Ben and I continued on to Gunsight Peak. The time was one hour even from summit to summit, in spite of the ridiculously strong westerly winds. There was a very nifty cairn marking the summit. We decided to try the southern face for our descent to Gunsight Pass, and it took one hour to navigate through and over the dirt, scree and boulders, but it was not terribly nasty. Threatening weather (some snow grains, too) caused us to cancel our idea of getting a hat trick by climbing Dome Peak. From campsight to Gilbert to Gunsight to Gunsight Pass and back to campsight was about 5+30. #2 09-16-21 W/ Lana. From Dollar Lake on a day with 15-20 mph winds. But sunny skies and cart-wheeling fair-weather clouds. Took some time to find the way to the base of the north ridge coming down from the Gunsight/Gilbert plateau.
