Doso Doyabi
Traversed over from Wheeler. Descended the NE side via a ridge and then a wash before joining the Glacier Trail. I do not recommend that descent route in the summer, it was a hellacious boulder hopping marathon. Every step seemed to dislodge a rock. Do it in the spring with skis...

Great climb and views
Amazing views of Wheeler's NE face on the ascent to Jeff Davis Peak. So cool. The descent off Jeff Davis proved to suck pretty hard, but the cross country stroll through the old bristlecone forest was pleasant en route back to the trail. Nevada proved to offer very desolate wilderness and open stretches of highway with random hot springs scattered around. Loved the freedom of such open stretches.
Looked like a good line up from the rock glacier. It was. Wind at the top was pretty intense. Descended the N slope. Discovered that I hate the rock. The snow gave way to an endless talus field of poised, slippery choss like 6-12" ball bearings. I avoided dropping down to the bristlecone forest and contoured back to the glacier loop trail. In retrospect I should have descended the NW Couloir. Would recommend going when you can minimize your contact with the quartzite. It's the Devil!
The last of a four peak weekend, this one came after Bald and Wheeler. The mountain is a pile of talus ranging in size from toaster to microwave sized, and much of it is loose and/or unstable. Upon reaching the summit, a thunderstorm that we had seen forming over the valley to the west of Wheeler came our way and we had to return into it as it passed over head, pummeling us with pea sized hail while we re-ascended Wheeler. Fortunately, there was no lightning, although two guys we met descending Wheeler towards us on the Jeff Davis saddle claimed their cameras were making weird noises on the summit of Wheeler!

Along with Wheeler
Wandered over from Wheeler. What a pretty cirque the west face of Wheeler and the north face of Jeff Davis peaks make!

Jeff Davis
Traversed over to Jeff Davis after climbing Wheeler Peak. Descended down to the bristlecone forest at the base of the peak and on back to the trailhead. Made for a great loop.

Great Views of Wheeler
Did the Traverse. Started on the Wheeler Peak trail at 8 and summitted Wheeler around 10ish. We went for the traverse, did the Needle and then did Jeff Davis. Weather started rolling in on us on Jeff Davis so we booked it down. Awesome view of Wheeler's incredible NE face!

Traverse from Wheeler
A fun scramble over from Wheeler. Topped out at 11 AM and was chased down the north ridge/slope route in a driving rain and hail storm. The storm seemed to come from nowhere and parked on the summit of the two big peaks and did not move.(An added bonus was intense lightning.) The North Ridge might be okay as an ascent route, but I would not recommend it as a descent route unless an emergency. (loose blocks, no clear identifiable trail from foot of ridge to main park trails.)

This is a separate Mtn?
Scrambled over from Wheeler Pk. To me this doesn't really seem like a separate peak from Wheeler. But it WAS fun watching hikers on top of Wheeler freak out when I told them I'd travered from JD!
Funny, I've thought the same thing about Bald Mountain.
Jeff Davis has over 400' prominence relative to col with Wheeler, which is considerably more than several official CA 14ers. JD is quite a challenge from the NE side.

Part of 3-pk hike
wheeler-baker-wheeler-JD then down to Glacier trail. If you can, do this trip the other way (up JD 1st), to avoid descending over the nasty loose rock on N JD; that route would also put you in a good position to do Bald at the end of the day. If you must descend over the NE side, aim for ridges and big rocks -- the chutes are nasty.
