"As an adolescent I aspired to lasting fame, I craved factual certainty, and I thirsted for a meaningful vision of human life - so I became a scientist. This is like becoming an archbishop so you can meet girls."

Mary’s RockNice going up. Steep. Practically floating coming down cause of the grade. Pretty crowded, but we climbed over to the summit for some quiet.

AT from PanoramaBeautiful fall views. Lots of ladybugs at the top. It's worth the extra time to explore and scramble up all of the boulders to the south.

Mary's Rock/Pinnacle comboOne of my favorite days in the park. I started out in foggy, drizzly weather at the parking lot. Along the way, the sun gradually came out. All of the spring wildflowers were in full bloom, and the views from Mary's Rock were spectacular.

Warm vs. WINDYSome parts of the snowy Meadow Springs trail were sunlit and warm, but exposure to a fierce wind on the west side of the ridge was nasty. I almost was blown over when I stood on the summit.

There's Something about Marys RockTwice so far - July 2012 and November 2017. I like to stand on the true summit. Fun boulders, nice views.

Nice HikeHiked from the base off RT 211 to the top, nice hike with steep sections and saw 2 black bear along the trail which made the climb from the bottom well worth it.

Excellent bushwackParked at the Mary's Rock tunnel overlook and bushwacked up and over the tunnel to the intersection with the AT where the bushwacking got too overgrown. Summit was empty, cold, and windy. The fall colors were mostly gone but there were still some making for a beautiful day.

North ATRocky summit is cool but the real less visited gem (or at least when I visited with Panorama closed) is the AT north of Mary's Rock coming down to Thornton Gap, wow!

AT in WinterThis was back before I knew about crampons. They sure would have been helpful. Mary's maintains a commanding view of the area and is a great conditioning hike.

Several TimesI've walked to this rock several times. The views are nice. I can't pinpoint an exact date, but I know I did it one time the same week as Earth Day in 2000 (Earth day is always April 22).

A foggy and rainy dayMy mom and I hiked up the Meadow Springs Trail to Mary's Rock. A light rain was falling and the forest was shrouded in mist. It made the hike a different experience from the clear days that I was used to.
