Re: WowYup, and Lake Superior isn't even the worst off! I read recently that it's due to thinner ice packs in the winter the lakes have been subject to greater year-round evaporation, thus the lower lake levels.

Re: didn't...Actually only one of the top "turrets" collapsed, not the whole formation. This shot is from back in 2005.

Re: I truly think that it's okayGreat question, I had to hit the books to find an answer. The Pictured Rocks cliffs are primarily sandstone laid down between 2-800 million years ago. I won't attempt to explain as geology is not my area of expertise but the NPS has a good page describing the geologic history of the Pictured Rocks area if you're interested.
