Home Sweet Home
Parked passenger car at Sweet Home Mine on Kite Lake road and walked the road. Left Kite Lake at 7AM and on summit in 2-one-half hours. Sound of thunder and some snow pellets prevented me from doing Lincoln-Bross. Saved those 2 for next year.

Nice Hike
Perfect weather for a solo hike of the "Three Banger", took 5hrs. rt.
The area was suprisingly gorgeous. We were going to do all 4, but one of my climbing partners got ill, so the two of us did democrat and then met up with the third climber at Kite and did some fly fishing. it was a great day!
Some friends meet us Saturday night, after our climb up the West Ridge of Quandary, and we partied too late. We got up late, so we bailed on our planned North Ridge route. We went to Kite Lake to climb all 4 in this group the lame way, and the weather turned stormy early (smart move to kill the North Ridge route). We simply climbed Democrat and returned to Kite Lake...it was pretty much the weakest 14er experience I've had.
From Montgomery Reservoir I did Mt. Democrat's North Couloir, Mt. Cameron, and Mt. Lincoln. CAUTION; route finding your way out of the Lincoln Amphitheater is a reall BI#@H if you did not come up that way.

My First Fourteener
Actually, it was my first hike over 5,000 ft. After a weekend in Denver and a night in Fairplay, I climbed it from Kite Lake. The lack of air was totally new to me and slowed me down considerably, but persistence got me through.

ugly
Pretty sure this is the lamest 14er. The view is marred by the molybdenum mine. The route from Kite Lake has very little to look at

2nd Decalibron
Standard route from Kite Lake. Democrat was my 10th 14er back in September of '94. Got in a repeat climb of all four of these summits, with family this time, just before the access controversy exploded.
Climbed this 14er the morning after my buddies and I were turned down mount tabeguache due to thunderstorms and hail. Was a beautiful clear night, saw about 6 shooting stars. We were up at 2 and were hiking by 3 since we had to catch a plane back to New York that day. It was really very serene, we ended up just hikin up the right face of the mountain (same side where trail goes) but more towards the middle. Great intro hike for the 14ers, also really fun at night.
