Top of CO
Started at South Elbert trail. Beautiful day, no clouds, a lot of snow, but hardpacked from other hikers and skiers. For about an hour, I was the highest person in Colorado. Incredible views. HP #18.

South Elbert trail
Nice easy hike once I found the well-trampled highway. Met some crazy dudes who had camped on the summit the night before. Trip report

Black Cloud Trail
A fun hike up and no people until the summit. Do driving up Mt.
Evans and staying in Leadville count as aid?

1st 14er, 2nd State HP
Took the unrelenting NE ridge. Made a few mistakes on this one- not having warm enough clothes, and not eating until getting to the summit. Both contributed to me getting a bit of altitude sickness. Nevertheless, the summit views made up for how crappy I felt!
Took a side trip during a thru-hike of the Colorado Trail. Lots of people on the trail (I think it was a Saturday but I didn't really know what day it was).

First CO 14er
This was my first CO 14er, and both my girlfriends' first 14ers ever. We did an alpine start on the best night of the Perseid meteor shower. Beautiful cloud free day, and we had a crowd free ascent. After we got to the top, about 15 or so others showed up and we met interesting people...all seemingly with more summit aspirations, as did we. One couple had just engaged. This was the first of two days of CO summits.
Gorgeous day. Climbed with friends Cheryl and Deborah. Started just before dawn. Had some snow, a rainbow, and some rain on the descent.

When I lived in CO I always hiked up a mountain on the anniversary of my husband's death. This was the 7th year..... An amazing day!

NE Ridge
I climbed Elbert as my hundredth distinct peak, and in the process I set a new personal height record. It's a plain mountain, but it offers wonderful views in all directions.
Climbed with 7 other friends via the northeast trail. It was the first 14er for all of us. This was my second attempt, the first being in April 2008 with snowshoes which ended up not going too well.

Northeast Ridge
I spent the night at the trailhead to enable an early start of 5 am. I passed one person and was the first on the summit from my route. It was cold and windy but very rewarding. See my Trip Report about doing seven 14ers in eight days.
Went with my good friend from college and native Coloradan Elise. Both coming from lowlands and being a bit out of shape, took us 6 hours to summit (via the NE ridge), reaching the top in blustery conditions and flurries. Compared to Whitney, this was a surprisingly steep trail in some places!

Good SidetripThought about trying to make it up for sunrise, would be a really good sunrise location if you can make it up for it. Nice views all around.
