2nd Mt Elden hike
Not the prettiest view from the top as other peaks in the area (like Mt. Kendrick!), but it's a steep, challenging hike towards the last bit. Worth doing if you're in the area. Worth doing for a workout too.

Great leg-stretcher, great views!
Beautiful trail with a fantastic payoff in terms of views of the San Francisco peaks and and the Flagstaff area. A lot of interesting plant life as well e.g. alligator junipers.

Great with Microspikes! :)
I went on a mild day in Feb. Nice hike, great workout. Be sure to bring your microspikes this time of year. Lots of packed snow that was deep towards the peak.
Took a group on a long loop, starting up the steep part, and down the Heart Trail. Not well marked, and hard to follow at times. We got on a bike trail that kept turning left instead of right. Had to bushwhack a little to get back on track.

Nice climb (steep trail)
So I went up to Elden solo... :y:
The first mile I sort of had that Phx to Flag, wow this air is thin feeling but quickly acclimated. This is a good urban mountain/hike. I really never got tired but it's just hard enough to be meaningful. It was probably gusting 30-50 mph at the summit. Thought about hiking over to TV Hill but as its not a Lists of John summit, I passed.
Capped off the trip with a visit to Peace Surplus and Beaver St. Brewery for a burger and a Flagstaff IPA.
Super cool view of Flag. Wanting to connect it to Schultz one day and make a night out of it.

Spring WIND
Hiked it with my girlfriend and Geoff. Started around 2:30. Warm at the bottom and got windier as we went up. It was really blowing on the summit. There was a fair amount of snow once we reached the ridge. Sick views!

Give me a black mark for flogging the Honda up ...
Not exactly a wilderness summit, but nice views nonetheless. Awesome watching hang gliders launch from the take off near the summit.

Morning Workout
We hike the Elden lookout route i was a little disappointed to find that there was a road that goes up to the top as well but it was still a great time with great views of the city of flagstaff.

Nice hike from the east
The east-side trail is a great workout and very much worth the effort. The fall colors were starting to turn. This was far more evident on the trees looking west and north in the little bowl on the summit ridge. The rounmd-trip hike took me about 3 hours. The following day we drove up the back side road and explored the upper meadows and forests, spending a few hours just relaxing in our camp chairs, periodically driving to somewhere different for some different views. Great hike and very convenient to Flagstaff.

Disappointed!!
Climbed to the summit via the lookout trail. A good workout, but the views were not all that great from what I am used to seeing. I do however think this would be a beautiful hike during autumn. That being said, I will probably not do this one again.

Mt. Elden
For me it is the ugliest way to hike this. Sandy Seep to Hearts Trail to the top of Elden is the best route in my opinion.

Mt. Elden Trail
Good workout before a long drive home after Humphrey's Peak a day before. Photos are here: Mount Elden hike
A friend suggested I go up Elden while visiting Flagstaff and dropped me off to hike the mountain. He hadn't hiked it, but a friend had. I made it up with a bit of heavy breathing. The view and Autumn color were worth the work. On the summit, I had to hurry as the sun was setting. The sun hitting the other side of the mountain was gorgeous. The scramble down was an experience. I'll definitely need the info on terrain next time I go for a new trail later in the day.
