First Winter Summit-Bridle
Was trying to get in Franconia ridge before the winter took hold and this was 1 of 3 possible weekends. Made last minute reservations into Manchester and met up with 2 friends from MA. Planned on doing the entire ridge but snow and ice from Friday/Saturday slowed us to a crawl in places with several parties turning back at the agonies. At the AMC hut noticed everyone coming down had campons and we were bare booting it but pushed on. Hit the summit in about 3.5 hours and saw the weather coming in over cannon so decided to get off the peak and use bridle back too. Guess Lincoln and Little Haystack will have to wait for another day. My first winter summit of anything so that was an extra special prize.

Backpack
Came up from the Garfield Tentsite with my friend Nerses.
Beautiful view of cannon cliff and Lafayette was shrowded in clouds. two cars is key. start south working northward was easier than climbing up the Greenleaf trail for me (tried rock climbing at Eagle cliff before i knew there were route books. it wasnt a good idea. very rugged, the Franconia area is amazing. the traverse is a cakewalk.
Great hike. Went on a crowded day and left a little late. All of the camping areas were full so we ended up sleeping on the trail in the rain.

Pemmi traverse
Climbed it as part of a four day Pemmi wilderness traverse from Lincoln woods to Crawford notch. Fog rolled in right as we reached the summit and we didn't see anything.

Route Climbed: water trail - Lincoln - ridgeline - Bridal trail Date Climbed: June 2002
Went over Lincoln first, then along Franconia ridgeline (magnificent) and up to Lafayette. Views are awesome. Franconia ridge is one of the most spectacular mountain areas in the eastern US. Lafayette is a beautifully sculpted alpine mountain. Went down bridle trail. Entire day is full of views. Spectacular!
Route Climbed: Falling Waters, Bridle Path, Greenleaf trail Date Climbed: Many Times
Lafayette is one of my favorite mountains in NH, the views are outstanding and the summit is beautiful. Two of my most memorable trips :
Climbing the bridle path to the top at night (arrived at the summit at 1 AM with noone around in July)
Climbing the bridle path at night in a blizzard in November. We did not make the summit and ended up camping in the middle of the trail near Greenleaf hut. There was 18" of fresh snow by morning. Fun Fun Fun!
Route Climbed: Franconia Ridge Traverse Date Climbed: September 27, 2005
Above the Greenleaf Hut, the wind blew the clouds away and it was a glorious summit day. Terrific views (even Washington eventually cleared). And every time I got tired on the Falling Waters trail I turned around and saw another beautiful waterfall!
