Rain, mud, and wind
Started at the Adirondack Loj on the VanHoevenberg Trail at 9:35 AM. Rainy day. Reached the summit at 2:45 PM with my wife. High winds and mist at summit. Low visibility. Hiked down on slippery rocks. Used headlamps for last mile out. Reached parking lot at 7:00 PM. HP #25.

Day Hike from the Garden
Great hike in September with no bugs and lots of sunshine.

First ADK
Hiked up it with my parents on a summer vacation. I just remember it being chilly and windy on top and being incredibly tired by the end of the hike. We started from the Loj, so it was a 14 mile round trip.

Great View; Long Hike
It was a very long hike. Coming down the rocky creek beds is very unpleasant on the feet and every few steps it seem as if a rock rolls out from under you. The views were beautiful from the top and it was rather windy and chilly on the summit. Definitely worth the hike.

First Ascent
My first ascent of many. I prefer the approach from Tahawus to the Van Hoevenberg trail...relatively few people and more interesting. It makes for a challenging day hike. Winter Ascent on 12/30/79.

Van Hoevenberg
We had a great day on Marcy, even if it did rain on us on the descent. The Daks are a beautiful place and Marcy is a jewel! Check out our report and pics at Natural Born Hikers-Mount Marcy

New Year's Backpack
Had the summit to myself for a good while that day. Cold but clear blue sky and bright sunshine. A great way to start the year!

road trip
Left Ohio (Marysville) right after work on Friday. Drove to exhaustion and arrived in Lake Placid around 3AM. Woke up by combination of freezing temperatures and approaching dawn. Found my way to the trailhead and started up the 8-10 mile trail around 9AM. Beautiful hike. Ended up scalping a ticket and watching Rage in NYC the same evening. Crashed at Penn State Saturday night and got back to work on Monday morning. Next time, maybe I'll buy an airplane ticket.
It rained for all 5 days that we were in the Adirondacks. Fortunately we got a short break in the rain upon reaching the summit - beautiful views! Please go to http://50summits.blogspot.com to read our trip report.

First High Peak
Climbed Mt Marcy back in 1992 with my brothers, Bob, Mike, and a co-worker Bobby. Was an awesome hike and great intro to the High Peaks of NY

Windy Indeed
This mountain is a legacy for me. I climb it everytime i'm in the area, simply wonderful. Beware of wind: Last time i took her summit she blew me off. I fell more then 75 feet. I survived with a bruised chest and ego, but she can whip up a good force when she wants to.

Windy
Low visibility; lots of wind. Trail was packed through deep snow, to about 5,000 feet, then tracks disappear. The summit snow was hard packed. Did it in showshoes (only a few patches of ice). Too much westerly wind to do Gray, as planned, but we then went on to do Tabletop.

Wind & Rain
Another day, another highpoint. Our lust for the summit caused us to ignore the rangers trail "closure" and go for the peak. Strong wind and rain was the problem. Many downed trees - some blew down after we passed them on the way up. Anyway, we made it, and it was fun.

sweet revenge, served cold
Easier hike than I've come to expect from the 'Dacks. Mostly cloudy and windy, the way winter should be.
Nice to stand on the summit after stopping short on my August Great Range traverse.

1st hike of any real distance. As a novice hiker it was grueling but well worth the effort. 1 down, 45 to go!!!

Marcy from South Meadows rd.
We did Marcy on 11-25-2006 from South Meadows road. From Indian falls, it was an Icy path and cascade of ice for about 40% of the path to the top. We had a great time on that day. We will come back in winter.
