ski descent SW gulley
Snow storm set in with winds gusting hard enough to knock us over. Summited in whiteout and descended back to south ridge in white out and crazy winds. We were able to find our way back to the gulley we climbed and as we descended this gulley, the weather became more agreeable. An awesome day with some tricky route finding and weather conditions that were unexpected for early june. Got to ski a little powder from the fresh snow.

SW Slopes
A little more fun than the main route, true summit was a little tricky to find.

Not Today
Started from the N. Halfmoon TH to take the SW slopes route. Great hike. I had the entire area to myself, but clouds and thunder turned me back just shy of the summit ridge. There's always next year!

The Southeast Ridge
Decided to tackle Mt. Massive from the Southeast Ridge for a different approach. Climbed over three peaks before reaching Mt. Massive for an exhausting but fun climb. Returned via the standard trail.

Via Colorado Trail
Gental climb considering rise over run (4370' for 6.8miles). Several sub-summits on ridgeline and very panaramic. Ideal weather. 4hrs time up for 2nd 14er after acclimatizing overnight and prime rib in Leadville.
Clouds lifted as we left the trail head in the morning from the Colorado Main Range Trail. All around perfect climb with Andy.

Southeast Ridge
Climbed the long challenging southeast ridge with Alan and Robert and then completed the loop with the Massive Trail. It was a great day with typical crazy Colorado weather. We experienced sunshine, rain, snow, fog, wind and fortunately distant thunder.

Piece of Cake
Route: To Windsor Lake, gain ridge, run it hitting all the peaks, bag Massive, go down NE ridge to Native Lake trail...
20 miles with only about 8 miles of actual trail? 7,000 vert? No problem. (would have been nice if I didn't leave my keys for the "vehicle shuttle" in the car at the other side) I say this to lure other unsuspecting crazy people to this route, you realize...:) The north side of the Massive ridge is absolutely phenomenal! I want it all to myself...on second thought, don't go there. :) This was Brandon's first "Becky Special" hike.

We left from the Windsor Lake Trailhead and hit all the summits except for South Massive. Returned via Native Lake. About 20 miles.

Via the trail on the east slopes
Fun hike but would definitally like to start doing more difficult routes up mountains than just following a trail. Beautiful day above orning fog in the valley with Leadville.

Southwest Slope
After several false summits, I finally reached the summit with hiking pals Phil Miller and Dan Spare in about four and one half hours. Interesting wildlife along the way included a white marmot and mountain goat. This was a much more interesting hike than doing Elbert 48 hours prior. My eighth fourteener.

Woke at 3, headed out by 3:30, was alone on the trail for all of the way up, at the summit and partially on the way down. Beautiful sunrise, a nice trail.
