Mt. Whitney!
Did the mountaineer's route in one day with my buddy Jason. Left at midnight and got to the couloir by sunrise and the top by 9am. We would have gone much faster but once the sun came up the cameras came out and we took tons of shots. This mountain is one of my favorites. Love you Whitney!

Whitney
Climbed the standard route with Matt Thielman, Ezra Danciu, and Hugo Pimentel. Long 22 mile trek. Took us 14 hours.
North fork trail on a very dry, snow-less day. Climbed it again the next year in early March. Tons of snow and had to hike 4 miles up the portal road just to get to the trail head...there was a rockslide covering the road. On the way down from the summit we came found a woman at the top of the notch who had passed out from apparent dehydration and/or altitude sickness. With the help of 4 other climbers we were able to lower her by rope then carry her to iceberg lake where we left her with a rescue team. This was supposed to be a quick day trip...we ended up hiking/climbing for 23 hours straight and with the rock slide it was about 20 miles roundtrip.

First 14er
I was in high school. My dad and I could not get an overnight permit. So we did the day hike. It was beautiful. I really wanted to do it from the West as a backpack trip after looking off the summit.

Badwater to the bone
Badwater (lowest in USA) in Death Valley overnight by bike to whitney portal. Via Mountaineers route to Whitney summit. 135 miles by bike, plus 6 miles by foot, and 22k elevation gain in 19h 30 min all told. TR is up at http://pullharder.org/2011/10/04/badwater/
The views are amazing, and what a classic trad climb via the East Buttress, you "gots" to love it. It was a little chilly but I really enjoyed it nevertheless. There were a couple other parties climbing the same time as our group, but we had the peak to ourselves. We desended via the Moutaineers route and that was dusted in snow with icy patches, pretty dangerous.
Left Outpost Camp at 3:00, stopped for breakfast at Trail Camp at 4:30. Sunrise just below Trail Crest. Summit at 8:30. Great conditions. Shared some Whiskey with a nice couple from Seattle.

Beautiful Day on Whitney
Went up the Mountaineer's route, on what was an astoundingly beautiful day! Went down the trail to get Mt. Muir on the way down, and boy those switchbacks suck!

Early Start on Main Trail
With a forecast for snow storms late in the morning, we decided to start our hike at 12:30am. Most of the hike up was in the dark under the stars. We reached the top just after sunrise. The whole trip down was new to us since we hadn't seen it in the light. Much more beautiful than I was expecting.

Perfect Day on Whitney
Could not have asked for better conditions on the mountain. Cold, perfectly clear skies, all the training paid off and we made it! First time, started at 3:15am, 16 hours. Photos here if interested: Mt Whitney Photos - Wattifoto

1st time
Mt Whitney trail dayhike. Started at 5am (a lil late), summited about 3pm, and finished at 1am... basically a 20hr hike. We had a couple of people in the group struggling with the altitude and length of the trip, so it took longer than expected. All 6 of us made it to the top and back in our 1st attempt, beating the odds of 1 in 3. So I'm happy, and I wanna go back and shatter that time by multiple hours!

Mt Whtney Hike,
Hiked Mt. Whitney on August 27, 2011. It was 110 degrees in Lone Pine and 40 degrees on top of the mountain. It hailed up there the day before. Bring long pants and a warm jacket and gloves and you should be comfortable. We started at 3:30 am and returned by 6PM. Kept moving the whole time, the switchbacks are the longest and steepest I'ver ever hiked. The trailcrest at the top of the switchbacks is really something. This is a very difficult hike, definitely not for kids. On the way down I started to wonder why I do this, but once you are down you remember the reason for such grueling hikes and I can't wait to do this all over again. I love hiking, I will do it until the day I die!

Did the Carillon-Russell-Whitney-Muir traverse in a long day with SuperDave. Whitney was great, but Mt. Russell was spectacular. We had the summit to ourselves on Whitney about 3pm.
