afternoon hike
After doing Van Hoevenberg in the morning, we walked down the road, got some lunch at the Hiker Hut and then hiked up Jo. Nice lake and lodge (or loj) nearby.

First of 2015
A quick and easy hike turned a little ugly when one of our climbers dislocated his finger. 2 hour hike, 2 hours in the ER.
First hike after a long summer of dealing with persistent plantar fasciitis and then Lyme disease. Still sore and weak, but it was fun and felt great to DO something. Views of the foliage were excellent, and then we walked around the lake before dark.

First winter hike
Was part of a small hiking group out of Albany. Took the long trail. Light snow falling the entire time. Enough people had gone ahead of us that snowshoes were not required, however, microspikes were much needed (ice under the whole trail). Excellent climb. Okay views from the top due to the weather. Well worth the climb.

Mt. Jo
Climbed via Nature Trail from the Adirondack Loj. A short, easy climb that provided some great views from the summit ledges, especially of the McIntyre Range to the South and of the Great Range to the East.
Went on this one with my dad because he had out of shape friends from work with him that didn't want to do a high peak.

Short trail up, long trail down
Climbed this with the dog. Had to lift him up onto one ledge. I've been up Jo a million times & it's always a pleasure. A nice clear day, spent a while on top identifying peaks with other hikers. The dog was scared of the edge. Took the long trail down, don't think I'd ever gone that way before. Also did Owl's Head on this trip - took the baby up for her first summit - a great short hike, similar to Jo.

Nice loop hike
Did the loop hike. Hazy but nice views of the high peaks from the top.
Up the short trail and down the long trail. I couldn't be contained on the bottom, fell, and scraped my knee. The ranger came and taught me to slow down a little. Came back ca. 2000 and still agree that this is one of the best view vs. effort hikes out there.
My son and I hiked up Mt. Jo during my first visit to Adirondack Lodge in September 2005. We hiked up the steeper, shorter trail and down the slightly longer, less steep trail. There's a spot at the top that's almost a false summit if you don't pay attention. We stopped there and I wasn't too impressed until we found our way to the actuall summit. Nice views for a little mountain like that and gave me a nice view of Algonquin on the other side of the lake, which I'll be hiking next week.
