We camped at Dollar Lake and summited Kings Peak and then went over to South Kings Peak and back. Beautiful day in the Uintas.

Good fun
Climbing the two tallest mountains in the state in a day is always a good time. It's a fairly easy traverse to get there

Kings Rider Traverse
Attempted the King Emmons Ridge but it was just too long. We traversed from Kings Peak to Trail Rider before descending to the south side of Painter Basin. This route turned out to be a very aesthetic line when done from Gunsight Pass. We summited:

Imagine summit of Kings without all the people...
Really nice summit, and no big deal getting there once you're all the way up Kings anyway. This is one of the few summits I've actually successfully napped on.
On the way back - assuming you came via Kings- it's easier just to re-summit Kings than sidehill around on the East.

With Kings (No Triple Crown)
Originally had my sights on the Triple Crown, but I am not as hardcore as most of the folks who have signed this climber's log. Therefore, Kings and South Kings were an accomplishment for me. This is a great peak to bag because we didn't see anyone else once we descended from the summit of Kings. We also avoided a thunderstorm by taking this detour.

Triple Crown!
If you do Kings, you might as well do South Kings as well. It takes about an hour to get there (unless you have a sprained ankle). Stick to the top of the ridge for best results. The views from South Kings are amazing. You'll also see less people. It's one of those places you feel so remote. Just let it happen.
I feel like this summit log is a personal attack against me.

Cute benchmark!
Most summit benchmarks are placed by the USGS, but this was the first I've seen that was placed by the Forest Service. I'm probably the only person that finds this tidbit to be interesting. Gorgeous day! Hopped over from Kings after forcing myself to eat some cajun trail mix. Also bagged Gilbert the day before, thus completing the triple crown!
Made a quick run over from Kings after speaking with some friendly folks at the summit of kings

S. Kings
8/17/2013 Made the quick traverse over from Kings. The weather was really turning on the way back so I undercut Kings gaining the ridge just above Anderson Pass. Made for a quick return trip. Part of a fun two day excursion that included Gilbert, Gunsight, East Gunsight, Kings, and South Kings.

Triple Crown
8/11/12- Triple Crown (highest 3 peaks in Utah) in 13 hours car to car with Josh Greenwell. We started in wet conditions in the dark and it slowed us down a lot. Summited Kings in 3:55 and then cruised over and tagged S. Kings. I took a tough fall on the saddle on the return trip over Kings. We ran back over the Gunsight plateau with our crew (they were running the Quest 4 Kings marathon) and reached the base of Gilbert in 7:30. We went up the chute and filled up in the spring. At the top of the cute we got blasted by the wind the rest of the way up to Gilbert and it took the steam right out of me. The descent and run out was a death march.
Peak 2 of 8 on the day, didn't see a soul the entire time.

"Long" run
Added this to Kings on a 7.5 hour run from Henry Fork TH. Needed this one to add to my 13er list as I got stormed off before this point on a Kings-Emmons attempt a year before. Otherwise I would have just ran Kings. I will be back to better my run with better route planning and quicker water stops. Sub-6 hours is within the grasp of most runners I think.

S Kings
Most recently climbed this on a ridge traverse from Trail Rider Pk to Kings. Also climbed it on Sept 4, 2009, on my first trip up Kings. Mount Emmons was getting pounded by rain and lightning at 10 AM- I got out of there fast.
Left Elk Horn crossing at 5:15 am, which allowed me to beat the Labor Day weekend infestation of Kings Peak hikers, as I was the first on Kings that day (arriving at 9:30 am). Sat on top for an hour, and still had it to myself, then I headed over to South Kings, Peak 13,306 (2nd Gemini), and Peak 13,387 (1st Gemini aka "Painter Peak"). Back tracked to the saddle between 2nd Gemini and S. King, and desended into Painters Basin and would never make that mistake again! After 15 hours I was back at Elk Horn Crossing.
