Second time this Year
Stricker Knob is one of the most scenic and fun hikes in the Massanutten/Shenandoah area. I've hiked it many times including Jan 21 of this year. The first time was back in Feb.1998 when I bushwacked it (there was no trail) with Mitchell J. Pierson and was reminded by my girlfriend, now wife, that I shouldn't hike on Valentine Days Weekend, an extended holiday that I was completely unaware of until then.

Very Scenic
We did an out and back from the parking area alongside US 211 where the Massanutten East trail used to cross.

One of the best
Do a loop via Duncan Knob for an added bonus. Great hike.

Hazy day.
I hiked today via the Scothorn Gap trail. Conditions were very hazy, visibility barely enough to make out the Blue Ridge across the valley. The scramble was fun, and I didn't see a soul on the trail all day.
There's good bouldering to be had, but I think the limestone cliffs are a little too rotten to set anchors or protection. Some areas looked like they were only a few freeze/thaw cycles away from dropping en-masse. Be careful.

Duncan plus Strickler
I climbed it along with Duncan Knob. A fun ridge scramble.

My first hike in 2008
I hiked to Strickler Knob on New Year's Day up the Scothorn Gap Trail. It was about 30 degrees F and pretty windy. The views were spectacular in all directions.

Cold..Cold.. VERY cold.
Opted to summit Strickler Knob via the Scothorn Gap Trailhead due to the frigid temperatures, wasn't sure how warm I would be. It was about -2 degrees F when I started out and there was not a soul around for the entire hike. The scrambling was fun but really short and the views of the Luray Valley are absolutely amazing. A great secluded hike that is relatively new as well.
