Hiked up the North Trail from the picnic area. We didn't go to the overlooks as storm clouds were moving in but views from the summit were pretty nice.

South Trail
Made it up to the plateau on top and followed the trail to a saddle. Bushwhacked up to the high point to the north of the saddle. The actual summit is a very sharp rock spire. Nice views and moderate hike.

Left my shoes, shirt, and shorts by the south trailhead
Relatively cool day, which was nice. I visited the summit, the north overlook, and the south overlook. I had to change for a lunch afterwards, but I left my shoes (with new insoles), my t-shirt, and my hiking shorts by the south trailhead.

Wilson Mountain
Hiked up the North Wilson Trail from the Encinoso Picnic area. The trail was hard packed snow the majority of the way to the first bench, but then was untracked after that. From the First Bench we blazed a trail in the shin deep snow the rest of the way to the top. Great hike and awesome views of Humphreys Peak and Sedona along the way.

Fun day
With Luna, the trail dog. Hiked up the North Wilson Mountain Trail. Really neat, the bottom part through the forest was filled with wildflowers. Once we popped out on the First Bench, it was more typical Arizona-ish to me. Hit the Sedona overlook first and then the true summit. Didn't see a summit register though. Summit reminded me of the Oregon volcanic stuff I am used to. We decided to hike down the South Wilson Mountain Trail to Midgely Bridge(ly) after seeing that side from the overlook. Was much hotter than the North Trail so we ended up going much slower since Luna was not liking the heat. She did enjoy seeing the ring-necked lizard on the First Bench on the way down though. Neat loop hike.

Cool day in December
Only a couple dozen signed into the register in 2009 -- I suppose most folks come up to go to one of the viewpoints on the trail rather than to the true summit, which involves about 200 yards of off trail hiking. The worst of it is right at the junction, then the underbrush gets less ornery.

South Trail
Great hike from Midgely Bridge. Went to the summit and both north and south overlooks. Then a late afternoon thundershower chased us down the mountain.

great flowers
This pleasant hike was on the last day of the "Youth in Asia" tour with my good friends DB, CP, and Hugh de Q.
Apparently, there was a summit register, placed by juh33, well before the 2006 fire. The current register appears to date from 2006.
Hiked up to the north and south viewpoints a few times, but looking back, I don't think I ever actually got to the true summit. My old guidebook (pre-topozone, national geo topo days) listed the summit at 7045'. I hiked up to the small 7045 hill, but it wasn't until recently that I paid closer attention and realized that there is a 7122' point on the east rim. Thanks for the pics brianhughes! Gotta go back now, not complaining...it is a great hike.
Oh, and I recommend the route from Encinoso picnic area. A shady canyon, and nice old growth.

Red Rocks Rule
May 1994. Took a friend up his first mountain here, up South trail. He did not believe in the need for sun screen ...yet. But a beautiful intro to hiking for him and Sedona red rock country for both of us. Later hike into Oak Creek canyon also a high point. Had to hike alone as my friend recovered from sun burn and heartburn from spicy food consumed after the climb.

Astounding, yet sad...
My wife and I hiked to the long summit plateau, south to the Sedona overlooks, then north to the north edge and an unreal panorama of humphreys Peak and the Coconino Plateau. I made a short side-hike to the 'summit' of the peak, a small side hill near the south-east edge. Amazing all-day hike... then a week later the Brins Fire obliterated everything. We feel fortunate to have seen the mountain and forest before being burned out; it'll take years for this area to recover. All part of the regeneration cycle, but still, very sad. We had a very personal, emotional connection to the mountain - made only moreso sad by the ensuing fire.
