Winter Ski Trips to Brown's Cabin
Brown's Cabin
Collegiate Range
Colorado, USA
Digging deep from the archive here...
I lived in Colorado Springs from 1989 to 1993, and used to go climbing and skiing with Buzz. One of his favorite trips was to ski into Brown's Cabin in the Collegiate Range for some back country skiing.
Brown's Cabin is an old, historic, abandoned 2-story mining cabin located in the Collegiate wilderness at an elevation of just under 12,000 feet.
The cabin is somewhat maintained by volunteers during the summer, and offers a great shelter in winter. We used the wood-burning stove the heat the cabin to a balmy 20 degrees F. You will use up all of the firewood if you heat the cabin any warmer than that.
Here are some photos from a ski trip back about 20 years ago with Buzz. If you know Buzz, tell him that I said hello.
