Very enjoyable TR. I enjoy your philosophical add-ons in your writing...as well as the trip details...and always the musical references. Congrats on another winter ascent.
Congratulations on a well executed climb. Well written and laid out! This is what SP is all about! Thanks for a great contribution (check for spelling and typos)!
for the great comments. Considering Steve had already written a great report over at 14ers.com, I wasn't sure if this was necessary. But I wanted to write something as well & there's many of us who don't visit each site so I figured the redunancy would be low.
Thanks again! :o)
You've got me paranoid about spelling now, Aaron. I must go back over it and look for errors! ;o)
I've already failed on Capitol twice so it's nice to see that you made it. The knife ridge looks to be in good condition ith few cornices. Wish I could have been there.
You gotta love the Elks. Beautiful mountain range and despite the rock, some of those peaks are great. I plan on exploring that place much deeper this summer.
Thanks for the comment and great avatar, BTW!
I just spoke with William (Billy) Roos, mentioned above, about the first successful winter ascent. He recalls it being very cold and getting some frostbite on his toes during the climb. He had participated in multiple attempts, including a north face route, before finally summiting via the NE Ridge. Based on your TR and Billy’s recollections, it’s quite the accomplishment to summit in the winter. Well done!
I definitely envy your job! It puts you in a position that most of us would love to have.
We've got a MONSTER TRIP coming up in a couple weeks. I'll call ya and fill you in. Hopefully you can make it! Spoke to Chris but he has other plans on tap.

Re: ExcellentThanks, Scott. I read your report with Kevin a few times to get a good feel for the place. Just making it that far (the lake) is a huge undertaking.

Always Room to PushLoved it. There is still plenty to push in the Elks. Many undones, and hopefully I can get my chance at one of them this summer.

Great accomplishment“I forgot my gaitors! They must be back at camp on my big pack. No gaitors or crampons. At least I brought a jacket!”
Glad you remembered your jacket!
Seriously though, great write-up and pics. 8 people up Capitol already this winter! That too is impressive.

Great ReportThat mountain is a challenge for most of us in the summer. Great stuff getting it in the winter.
