Signs of Wildlife--Tracks, Scratches, Burrows and Yes, Even That!

Sometimes we don't see wildlife itself, but we happen on signs that it was there before us. While the most common would be tracks or scat, more subtle signs are present. It's a delight to recognize an animal's passing from scratches it might have left, it's burrow, dried mud on trees, or even the trail itself. Please feel free to add your own images and interpretations of wildlife signs.

idea for an album. Whether its tracks or scat, I've always enjoyed finding evidence of animal life on the trails.

Thanks, Zach. Heh-heh. Obviously there are a few pic's of tracks out there, especially something unusual or uncommon. But scat? We'll see!

Looking for animal signs, particularly tracks, is one of my favorite things about hiking. I've seen lots of tracks and scat off-trail in the foothills west of Colorado Springs. Can't say I've taken any photos of the scat.

Thanks, Mayhey Kid. It's take awhile, but it has been picking up the occasional image making it all that much more effective and interesting. --mark d.
