Nice report. I did Shuksan with some friends in July 2009. The Shannon Ridge Trail was very muddy in places but always visible. Sounds like it has really deteriorated. Our group found a 3d and 4th class route up to the summit (we were the only ones heading up that day). I couldn't believe the views for a peak not even 10K feet! You'll get her next time!
I was shocked to see how much it deteriorated. That is a very well know route as well. I really hope to go back up there in August.

Aiming for It Soon
Hoping to summit Shuksan on a Washington trip in August. I want the Fisher Towers route though. Surprising to hear about so many up there, but I've heard a lot of parties take on Shuksan without being up to it. Not all trails can be serviced at the same time. Trails that are least used, in sensitive areas, or high elevation are often left until last, if maintained at all. I always carry a 0 degree bag after having a few too cold nights. The extra pound or two is worth knowing I won't die and can sleep well. There are a lot of ways to lose that pound or two other ways. Good luck next time.
Good luck on the Fisher Chimneys this August. You will be rewarded will amazing views. Hopefully I will have a second chance be up there again in late August.
