Brocken's Specter or Spectrum since Whymper until Osw (1976-1865) / 1

Scientists almost start laughing. For them everything is easy and clear, incidentally are digging on Mars and we stroll around Pluto. Soon we will climb the Rupes Martis, high 24 Kilometres, and we'll forget the Everest, a Dwarf in comparison. An exhaustive scientific explanation will unravel the doubts on the Spectrum. At least as regards that of Brocken:
The Brocken, or Blocksberg and therefore not Broken, is Germany's highest Summit (1142m) of the Harz Mountains, between the Rivers Weser and Elbe, located in the municipal territory of Schierke. Despite the "low height", it tends to be covered by the snows from September to May, and mist and fog surround him for most of the year. Its microclimate reminiscent of mountains about 2,000 metres above sea level. In the legend it has a long history of association with Witches and the Devil, which date back to well before the mention of Faust by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe in 1808, and the Opera of Charles Gounod 1859. Goethe described the Brocken in Faust as the center of the Orgies of Witches in the tremendous Night of Walpurgis, that of April 30th on the eve of St. Walpurga day. It was inspired by two rock formations on top of the mountain, the Teufelskanzel or the Devil's Pulpit and Hexenaltar or Altar of the Witches. The Writer Heinrich Heine, another famous Brocken's visitor described it in the book "Harzreise or Harz Journey" published in 1826 by saying that "The mountain somehow seems so "germanically" stoic, so understanding, so tolerant, just because it allows such a high and broad and clear. It does such a mountain to open its giant eyes, could well see more than we can ourselves, and as we step on the dwarf, watching stupid eyes". But the Brocken also lives in other citations, as in the heavy metal band Fates Warning with his debut album "Night on Brocken", the song that gives the title track talking about the "Sabbath of the Walpurgis Night", or in the second, "The Spectre Within" which is inspired by the Brocken Specter. Other musical groups followed in the footsteps like the Cradle of Filth with the text "Born in a Burial Gown" contains an obvious allusion to the Brocken as a place of gathering of witches, or the legendary Black Sabbath of Ozzy Osbourne with the song "Walpurgis", which he spoke of witches who gathered to perform pagan rituals definitely on Mount Brocken, or Blocksberg, composed of the two neighboring but distinct Summit of Teufelskanzel or Devil's Pulpit and adjacent Hexenaltar or Witches's Altar. Anticipating or participating in Visions of Alpinism, that soon would have supported it all with conflicting responses. Since Edward Whymper after winning with Francis Douglas, Robert Shadow, Charles Hudson and Guides Michel-Auguste Croz, Peter Taugwalder, father and son and subsequent accident on the Matterhorn Crest July 14, 1865 with the three underlying Crosses a semi-circle in the sky until nowadays.

Gli Scienziati si metterebbero a ridere. Per lor tutt'é facile e chiaro, daltronde stiamo scavando su Marte e gironzoliamo intorno a Plutone. Presto scaleremo la Rupes Martis, alta 24 Km., e ci dimenticheremo dell'Everest, al confronto un Nanetto. Un'saustiva spiegazione scientifica vi dipana i dubbi sullo Spettro. Almeno per quanto concerne quello di Brocken:
Il Brocken o Blocksberg e quindi non Broken è la più alta Vetta tedesca (1142 m) delle montagne dell'Harz, comprese tra i Fiumi Weser ed Elba, situata nel territorio comunale di Schierke. Nonostante la "bassa altezza", tende ad essere coperto dalle nevi da Settembre a Maggio, e foschia e nebbia lo avvolgono per quasi tutto l'anno. Il suo microclima ricorda quello di montagne di circa 2000 metri d'altitudine. Nelle leggende locali ha una lunga storia di associazioni con Streghe e Diavolo, che risalgono a ben prima della menzione del Faust di Johann Wolfgang von Goethe 1808, nonché dell'Opera di Charles Gounod 1859 con i suoi Librettisti Jules Barbier e Michel Carré. Il grande Poeta Wolfgang Goethe descrisse il Brocken nel Faust come il centro delle Orgie per le Streghe nella tremenda Notte di Walpurgis, ovvero il 30 di Aprile alla vigilia del giorno di Santa Walpurga. Si era ispirato a due formazioni rocciose sulla cima della montagna, il Teufelskanzel o Pulpito del Diavolo e l'Hexenaltar od Altare delle Streghe. Lo Scrittore Heinrich Heine, altro famoso visitatore del Brocken lo descrisse nel libro "Harzreise o Viaggio nell'Harz" edito nel 1826 raccontando che "La montagna in qualche modo appare così germanicamente stoica, così comprensiva, così tollerante, solo perché permette una così alta e ampia e chiara. E dovesse una tale montagna aprire i suoi giganteschi occhi, potrebbe ben veder più di quanto possiamo noi, che come nani la calpestiamo, osservando con occhi stupidi". Ma il Brocken vive anche in altre citazioni, come nel gruppo heavy metal Fates Warning con il suo album d'esordio "Night on Brocken", canzone che dà il titolo all'album parlando del "Sabba della Notte di Walpurgis" oppure nel secondo "The Spectre Within" che si ispira allo Spettro di Brocken. Altre bands seguirono le orme come i Cradle of Filth con il testo "Born in a Burial Gown" contenente un'ovvia allusione al Brocken come luogo di raduno delle streghe, oppure i leggendari Black Sabbath di Ozzy Osbourne con la canzone "Walpurgis", che parlava di streghe che si riunivano per compiere maledetti rituali pagani sicuramente sul Monte Brocken o Blocksberg, composto dalle due vicine ma distinte Sommità del Teufelskanzel o Pulpito del Diavolo nonché dell'attiguo Hexenaltar od Altare della Streghe. Anticipando o partecipando alle Visioni del nascente disciplina dell'Alpinismo, che ben presto avrebbe suffragato il tutto con contrapposti reponsi. Da Edward Whymper dopo la disgrazia sul Cervino del 14 Luglio 1865 con le tre Croci sottostanti un semicerchio nel cielo insino ai giorni nostri.
Fino a questo punto restiamo ancora nella pura Leggenda del Magico e dell'Occulto, ma presto dovevano intervenire gli Scienziati con le loro infallibili Teorie ...
