Re: thisWhen I climbed the peak in 1993, Cholatse was an expedition peak. If I remember right we paid about $2500 for the permit to climb it (A could be off it was a long time ago). About 5 years ago, it was reclassified as a trekking peak. This actually makes an ascent quite a bit cheaper. I don't think that you have to hire the liason officer, cook, etc. that we hired, although it was really a wonderful experience hanging out with the Sherpas, and at the end of the expedition we were treated to one of the best meals that I've ever had by the Sidar and his wife.
When we climbed the peak, this rock face was also all covered with snow and ice!

Trekking Peaks are lowerNepal classifies peaks by height. The higher ones are climbing peaks with higher fees and lower ones are trekking peaks with lower fees. It really has nothing to do with the technical difficulty of getting to the top.
