Tourist Route
Did the short walk from the parking lot. A bear was grazing on grass alongside the road on the drive out. Folks were stopping to take pictures (like me) but everyone stayed in their cars and I didn't see anyone try to give him handouts.

Nice rest day
Parked on the road to the summit just after Collins and scrambled to the AT. Hiked AT to summit. 8 km total trip with a 1.6 km side trip to Buckley.

a strange day
Got to the parking area and it was sunny. Hiked to the top, and by the time I got to the observation tower, it had started to rain. Climbed the tower, and it was pouring. Needless to say, I didn't stay long. Hiked back down the hill, and it got sunny again. Couldn't see anything from the top due to the clouds, which sucked. I've done this one before and I'll do this one again, too.
The Smokies are amazing. Love this area a lot!

Second visit
Drove to the paved path after a long morning hike north of Newfound Gap. It was my second visit here and first to the actual summit tower, where I was blanketed in fog.
After completing Kentucky in the morning, I headed down to Clingmans Dome before catching a flight from Nashville the next day. The Clingmans Dome road was closed during my visit so I had to hike the 13 mile RT along the AT to the summit. I'm glad it worked out that way because it made the summit more challenging. It was a rare moment to have this summit all to myself since normally when the road is open there are hordes of tourists.

Soaked in the Sunset
Approached around sunset and hiked the steep path after 13 miles on the AT earlier that day. Happened upon a bear cub along the way playing on the hill. Enjoyed a beautiful sunset on our last day in the mountains.

Route: Paved Path
6th highpoint. Wanted to bag LeConte as well, so took the paved path. Skies were too cloudy for views.
2010: First state highpoint. I definitely enjoyed being there, but the mountain was completely enveloped in clouds so zero views. It wasn't even the highlight of the day as Chimney Tops was more fun on every aspect, but I'm sure if I went back on a clear day my opinion of the 3rd highest in the Appalachians would be higher.
Very easy, paved, 1/2 mile trail to the top of TN's highpoint!

Easy little hike to the top, which was fun. Unfortunately didn't have any views with all the mist. We hiked to Andrew's Bald after, which I think is even cooler!

#6 - Love the smokeys
Drove up this, but tacked on a couple hikes elsewhere in the park. Was looking forward to Chimney Tops but it was closed so we did Grotto Falls and Le Conte instead.

Hiked Leconte instead, still love the Smokies!
Second time at Clingman's Dome, state HP #6. Since you can't really hike up to it without taking the AT forever, we hiked Mt Leconte the next day, which was a great substitute. The Smokies are awesome either way....grouped with Mitchell/Asheville, one of my fav trips.

HP #3
I did this HP the morning after being in a wedding, needless to say I was thankful for it's ease. Weather was cold (which helped combat the hangover's urge to vomit), wet, and extremely foggy.

I did this the same day as Mt. Mitchell. Fog at Mt. Mitchell, but great views at Clingman's. Temperatures were in the mid 50s at the top. Great day to be there, the leaves were past peak but still beautiful.
