Not difficult hike. The first half of the trail looks like you are following the tire treads of a jeep. There are a few steep walking sections. The ground is scattered with somewhat large rocks, so hiking down left me fearful of turning an ankle.
Super pretty! You can see well into Capitol Reef from the summit. Such a gentle giant.

Short and Sweet
There's a new trailhead sign passed Big John Flat that takes you directly up the ridge. It took our small group a little more than an hour to reach the summit from this trailhead. We saw bambies and goats up there and the weather was really good for July. Gorgeous views all around from the summit. I would love to ski down this thing in winter.
Parked on the road between Griffith and Poison Creeks. Took the ridge all the way up, then continued on to Holly. The only mountain goats we saw were really far away. This part of Utah is so scenic.

loooong walk
I hiked up Big John Flat road from the lower gate. Above 9700' the road was completely covered in snow. Followed the road to Griffith Creek where I cut up to the ridge. Lots of snow in the meadows and on the slopes but not much on the ridge. Spectacular scenery. The only wildlife I saw today was a porcupine.
9/24/2013 From Big John Flats I drove up the dirt road to about 11,200 feet before finding a good place to park. From there I headed up and over the ridge and worked my way over to Mount Belknap. From Belknap I returned to the section of ridge above my car and headed up to Delano Peak. Unbelievable country, hiking across the tundra towards Delano Peak was a very drastic change to the talus laden ridges and slopes leading to Mount Belknap. Perfectly clear day with outstanding views. The fall colors, looking down canyon, were some of the best I've seen.

Long Day
The lower gates were locked because of lingering snow above 10,000', so this came in at roughly 13 miles. It was pleasant, though, and nowhere was snow really an obstacle. We (Lorraine and I) saw elk, deer, and mountain goats while out on the mountain.
Another trip up Bullion Creek. It may be the high point, but Belknap and Baldy are much nicer-looking. Trip report.

From Griffith Creek
Nice stroll through the alpine tundra. A few dozen mountain goats were grazing on one of the northern saddles. The whole area looks remarkably unlike any other area in Utah that I've seen.

Hurricane force winter winds!
Climbed from Big John Flat road close to Poison Creek. The bottom half of the mountain was a balmy 20 degrees. Towards the top, the winds picked up to about 70 miles per hour, and the temperature plummeted to about -5 degrees. I have no idea what the windchill would have been, probably -20. Having lived through 3 Florida hurricanes, I know the winds up there were probably Hurricane 1 or 2. Only downside, it wasn't 75 degrees with warm tropical rains!

Awesome Day
One of the greatest days in the mountains I have ever had. From a campsite on the Lake Stream Rd, hiked up with a friend to the TH (snow blocked our passage by car), stashed a few cans of beer in the snow, then proceeded over Holly to Delano, then on the ridge east all the way to Brigham, then back on the trail at the eastern base of the mtns back to the beer stash and then campsite.
Climbed from Griffith Creek. Took 1 hour to reach the summit. Only two more Utah county highpoints to go, Eccentric and Mount Cardwell. Descended the east face of Delano and climbed two additional 300+ prominence peaks (East Delano 12060' and Delano Brigham Ridge Peak 12002'). After climbing those two peaks, I reascended Delano and then traversed over to Mount Holly. Saw plenty of goats on the top of Mount Holly
Took a little less than an hour to hike the ridge to the right of poison creek to the top and about a half hour to get down including lingering at the top for 10 minutes. Total time about 1 and a half hours.

Delano at night
Hiked near midnight. Followed the main ridge line from the ATV road at the pass above Big John Flats to the northwest, by headlamp and GPS. Made for an interesting ascent. The starlit sky from the summit was shocking, with no moon and no points on the horizon higher than the summit we were on within view. We felt as though we were among the stars.

Windy
Hiked Delano on my way down to attempt Signal Peak for a second time. Beautiful views, but a bit cold in the wind.
I want to get back down here and hit all the other Tushar 12,000 ft peaks.

From Big John
With my wife! Lots of snow-- we parked at Big John.
I hiked up Delano Peak, East Delano Peak, and Delano-Brigham Ridge Peak starting from Big John Flat. The road was closed at the campground 3 miles up the road, so we walked about 2 miles on the road before heading up the ridge.
