Hello Hannes!Nice work, I liked the movie a lot, it gives a great impression of what it is really like being up there: exhausting! The guide doesn't sound tired at all :-) He keeps calling you Hannes! In dutch, it's a name sometimes used to describe a clumsy person :-)

No, the other way around. Hannes is a smart fellow in Sweden. The Swede Hannes Alfvén won the Nobel Prize in Physics just as Richard Feynman did. I remember you winning

Interesting read about Alfven on wikipedia, never really heard about him.

congrats!Congrats Hannes on the climb of this mighty mountain and the great report.
You reminded me when I left my sunglasses in the car and only realised it when I was high up the mountain on a glacier... my eyes felt just a bit irritated the night after :)
The film complements your story very nicely.

Awesome topographyNothing satisfies the penchant an armchair mountaineer has for the ladling heights like a splendid account of a siege style assault like your's, sir. Very well done down to the last dotted i in your narrative. If i could be so bold as to comment on poor Allison Hargrave's observation of the crampon though, I would include the discovery of the nicely sealed box of peanuts below the Witner's Shed landmark, stumbled upon by a subsequent French team retreating in fog. (near the make shift cow pasture by the communal base camp).....Exceptional report you wrote, I'll look forward to the next.

Re: Awesome topographyThe distance from the armchair route to the real thing is just the length of an arm. All what is needed is to arm yourself with determination to avoid sitting in the armchair regretting things that did not came off. And a big bonus is to read positive feedback. Thanks!

Re: Awesome topographyWell Hans, I have done some mountaineering, and it even seemed fairly ambitious back in the day. Now I'm in Michigan, a region devoid of extreme topography, with a family and little spare time, little spare money. So it is through people like you and others in SP, books, etc., that I vicariously realize the thrills of the heights. So I thank you. As for a story on Alison, yes, that is a splendid idea....I've certain done the reading.
