Ellingwood Chimney  Sucess!

With Chris D. from Colorado Springs. The local guide, as of 2021, has the approach wrong. It makes way more sense to approach via the Dome, a short ridge connects the two, climb Ellingwood and then return to the Dome for another route of a similar grade. Approaching from around the south end involves plenty of bushwhacking. Great chimney lead at the grade. True chimney technique with solid rests in between sections. The last pitch is essentially runout 5.7 up a wide corner. No reason to bring large gear unless you are a beginning trad leader. Double ropes make the rap easy. You will get a great view of Bishop's chimney on the way down.
