Ferro de Passar Roupa

Overview

Ferro de Passar Roupa is a mountain of Torres de Bonsucesso Group. Climbing Torres, it’s necessary to pass in the base of this block to go to the top of the range. The mountain has beautiful views from the top and from the trail. The form of the mountain look like a pressing iron ( Ferro de Passar Roupa = Pressing Iron ). From the top it’s possible to see many mountain like Torres de Bonsucesso, Bonsucesso Valley, Lucios Valley, RJ-130 road, Fonsecas Mountain Group, Morro dos Cabritos and some mountains of Tres Picos State park. Ferro de Passar is a preserve mountain because there aren’t much people who climb it yet. Only goes to Torres de Bonsucesso and forget to go to this beautiful mountain. At the top have a great rock that it’s possible to go up there and see beautiful sceneries, magic sunsets and the lights of Bonsucesso district at night

Getting There

Ferro de Passar Roupa is situated in Teresópolis town ( 100km from Rio de Janeiro ), at Bonsucesso district ( 25km from downtown Teresópolis ). Bonsucesso is a little and a peaceful place, with farms, ranchs, waterfalls, churchs and taverns. It’s very easy to get the trailhead. By bus from Rio de Janeiro, Take the bus called “Viação Teresópolis” at Rio’s bus station ( price : US$ 5 and 2 hours of travel to Teresópolis ). Arriving Teresópolis, choose another bus or take a taxi to Bonsucesso district :
Bus : US$ 1 ( 1h/1h ) and 1 hour to arrive at Bonsucesso.
Taxi : US$ 10 and it’s very fast, 20 minutes to Bonsucesso.
By car, Leaves Rio de Janeiro and drive to Teresópolis by BR-116, pass the main entrance of Teresópolis and continues to this road more 10 km and turns to the right, to RJ-130 ( Nova Friburgo direction ). Drive more 25 km to Bonsucesso. Arriving here, look a little church and search for an old cemetery, follow to this way ( Torres de Bonsucesso is at right ) till a school and a little bar. Turn to the right on this point, continues and turn to the right again. Walk on this way till a big house at the left side. This is the trailhead, the last place to stop your car. The trail to Ferro de Passar Roupa starts beside this house. After the entrance, follow the wire fence till a water tank, beside this, have an yard gate, pass by this and go to the right trail following the little river ( the last water point ). Rise this way and when arrive at another bifurcation, turn to the left, and the trail change to steep and the last slope until Ferro de Passar is hard.

Red Tape

No parking fees or taxes to climb the mountain. Just clap hands to enter the yard gates. People who live there like the mountaineers and tell you about the preservation rules of the mountain.

When To Climb

The trail to Ferro de Passar Roupa is very easy and, you can reach the top at the morning if starts early the ascent. Every clear day is a good day to walk on this mountain. To stay on the mountains by days, I advise to check the forecasts, because the weather is rainy, it’s very bad stay there ( very humidity, isolated and cold ). Winter is the best season to rise and, at summer could be extremely hot and rainy hard.

Camping

There aren’t oficial campsites. You can set your tent all over the way. Choose the protected places and, do not camp near water fountains.
