Impressive

My older boy is 3.5 years old. We have only day hiked with him and he has never carried a pack. He is great on short, flat trails for 5 to 8 km round trip. He loves when we sent up a tent in the backyard, but I am not sure how well he would sleep in one; we are going to try next summer.

Great work with your boy, enjoy your future trips.

Cheers

Re: Impressive

Try it, kids love tents :) I should mention there wasn't much of anything in his pack - the frisbee, his cars, a jacket, and his warm hat. He's too little to weigh down.

I remember those days

I remember those days, hiking and backpacking with a young child:

Trip Report

Before you know it, he'll be faster than you and be able to out climb you. ;) Then you can make him carry everything (at least on day trips).

Good luck on your future adventures.

(PS, you might want to add the date into the trip report).

Re: I remember those days

Yep, he's going to have to repay Mom one of these days :) I added the date, thanks for the suggestion

Kids

That's awesome!
I took my kids in the mountains when they were young. Now they are 21 and 32.
The 32-year-old went climbing with me in Bolivia last summer. You are starting a life-long habit. Congrats!
