With Smuts  Sucess!

Chossy death-chute after an endless side-hill from Smuts, but still kind of fun. Trip report.

Scramble  Sucess!

A small but challenging mountain. This peak has a lot of loose rock - it requires a helmet. Strenuous climbing in the gully/chimney, again very loose on the summit ridge. We had a blast!

Route Climbed: Smuts Col Date Climbed: July 12th, 2005.  Sucess!

July 12th, 2005. Excellent day of scrambling. Helmet is a must even if done solo like me. Small rocks were dinging off of mine on the down climb. It was almost better I was alone due to the rocks I dislodged while being very careful. Felt a bit silly yelling "Rock" to no one. Enjoyed the view before a quick reteat from the thunderstorm.

Route Climbed: Scramble Date Climbed: September, 2003  Sucess!

This is rated a difficult scramble, but is not a long day. This is also one of the most popular backcountry ski areas in Kananaskis, or Banff for that matter. It just gets good snow and the avalanche reads are less complex. The toughest scramble in Kane's book to the left is Smuts and she shares a col with Fist. Interesting item in this summit log is some guys had to spend some time up there awaiting a grizzly's departure from the col.

I have also skied on all sides of the fist. Commonwealth Valley is an accessible area to spend some quality backcountry time. Cheers!
