hehehe. Yeah, it's a tough course, 7 starts, no finishes. Best I've done so far is 40 miles in 28 hours to miss the 26:40 cutoff to go on (not that I really wanted to). Rat's Jaw isn't really the toughest part either. I always climb it in daylight, first lap on Sat. afternoon and second lap on Sun. morning. The hills in between which are just as bad, especially at 3 AM in freezing rain. I'm not really looking forward to lap 3 when we reverse direction and come down it.
I've read some short stories about Barkley's... after volunteering the HR100 this year and seeing how incredibly hard that one is, I can't imagine a tougher one (as this is). It makes me slowly shake my head with a mixture of disbelief and amazement :-)
Tennessee's Cumberland Trail was featured in an article out of Akron Beacon Journal. It mentioned Frozen Head State Park at length about its hiking & waterfall opportunities. Sounds like a good future area/range page on SP.

Untitled CommentNice work, Matt. Just ran my first marathon...a real wussie affair on pavement. That was hard enough!

Untitled CommentWhat are the possibilities for backcountry ski/ snowboarding? The slopes looked pretty steep, but might be negotiable. Interested on your input.
