Re: Nice TR! Two questions:

Nicely done. My friends and I summitted 3 days after you from the Bonney Pass side. Bonney pass isn't all that bad, it just stinks at the end of the day when you're already tired. BTW, the slope above the bergschrund is 45-50°. The slightly steeper slope (and I thought more exposed) was above the rocks when you first gain the face of the summit ridge.

Re: Nice TR! Two questions:

Really? A 45-50-degree slope would (most of the time) be very manageable for me, but the bergschrund slope was definitely more than that. That upper slope did not seem near as steep as the bergschrund slope during the day I did them, although I will agree that it was more exposed. Plus, when I did them, the upper slope to the summit ridge could be gradually angled up whereas the bergschrund slope did not really have such an alternative option on it. I recall thinking "I thought I was beyond the worst part!" when I approached the upper slope, but it was not difficult... just the typical extra caution taken. BTW, congrats on your successful summit.

Re: Nice TR! Two questions:

Hmmm. Different strokes for different folks I guess. I motored up the slope above the schrund without a 2nd thought. I didn't rope up with one of my partners until the upper face where it looked to be more exposed.

Good work

Nice work, I friend and I climbed it last year in August from the Pinedale side. It's a great mountain, nice and secluded. I almost enjoyed Gannett more than Rainier...

Mr Baggins

Hobbits truly are hearty folk. Your tale has a ring of truth to it, yes it rings true. I had plans to make the same journey upon my arrival to Wyoming. However, after reading the remarkable log of your journey, it is now clear to me that I must re-familiarize myself with alpine backpacking for the first time in nearly nine years. Therefore this year, before the snow begins, I will hike a trail I have before, and summit Fremont Peak for the third time in my life. By this time next year, I plan to be in shape enough mentally and physically to handle the extreme conditions of a Gannett summit. The road goes ever on and on, down from the door where it began...

Re: Mr Baggins

I made no secret I used sub-heading titles from chapters in "The Hobbit", but you are one of the few to actually comment in reference to it. Gannett Peak is well-worth the effort.

Great page!

Thanks for the report and the nice route page; they were a big help during the climb! I summited two days ago and it was my first time in crampons - I loved it and did the entire ascent unroped. We roped up on the way down just to be safe...

My partner also struggled with blisters - he cut out the heels of his hiking boots the day after the summit which enabled us to get out without problem - glad you and Jack were able to overcome all this awesome mountain threw at you!

Re: Great page!

Good job! I'm glad to hear the TR and Route page helped. I hope your partner's feet heal soon!
